I'm trying out some rubberized undercoating spray meant for cars to see if it will dampen the noise. It's still in the curing process so I have yet to see if it worked. I also sprayed the bottom with bed liner spray and I'll see how that holds up this season.

Let us know how much weight it adds too.

I don't think it will add much weight, since I'm only doing a light layer
Rubber undercoat I'm using, I'm testing in the center console since it will be hidden if I don't like it, but is where I put small items so it's where it is needed

Bed liner used on bottom of the hull, it didn't take much and I only did a light layer

Well, it looks like I'd need much more to make a big difference, but the benefit is that it is more textured so things won't slide around as much. This little project didn't cost me anything since I had the cans already, but they are always on sale for $6 or less if I remember right. I'm happy with the bed liner, it is a nice thin layer, so there was practically no weight added. Hopefully I'll be able to take it out and see how it does against gravel in the water

What noise are you trying to dampen? How noisy can a kayak be?

I am VERY interested in how the bed liner works as a hull protectorant. The stuff is indestructible on my truck bed. About the only place my yak gets beatup is the bow and stern skeg. I used some HDPE stick-on sheeting to protect those places and it has held up, but it took some careful fitting. A spray-on would be better even if it wore off, it would be easy to renew.

I tend to stack up tackle in that center console so it's all in front of me and I'm not constantly reaching around, so lures and weights and my pliers, but they can slide around and bang on the sides. Mostly, I had the cans left over and thought why not give it a try...

As for the bed liner, the skegs definitely had some scratches from use, as did the bottom in the center to an extent. I also had a spare can of this lying around and figured it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Ok so after a couple weeks I checked again and the rubber undercoat actually made a difference

How many trips out and what kind of abuse? Any chance to get photos of the skeg and bottom? The most wear on my Revo is in two places. The skeg, from tipping it up and down getting it on and off the truck's racks, and the nose from scraping into the shoreline hauling out. I use a goofy wood guard on the skeg, but bedliner, even if it needed to be reapplied a few times a season would be great!

The rubber undercoat was used for sound so my only experience with that is talking to hear a difference and it did help deaden the sound. Nicer that tool box liner that never stays put. I haven't put the bed liner to a test yet, going out next weekend though. I'll take some pictures tonight of the bottom and post them up.

Thanks.
I'll be going to give the bed liner a test next weekend. It did a good job filling the small scratches. Some of the deeper ones still show but aren't as bad

Have you tried scratching it off yet? Kayaks are very slippery at the molecular level, so I'll be pleasantly surprised if this holds up to real world use.

So, the bed liner chipped off in a few spots. I didn't do any prep to the kayak before spraying so I'm not too concerned. If nothing else, it is a protective layer that rocks need to get through before scratching the hull
