6500 Sea Lions/38 dead

They've got it backwards.    They should have left 38.   

They should reduce the number of females (without current pups) first. Then begin reducing the male population.

Do it quietly at night so none of the bleeding heart whacko's know when or where they are lowering the head count at any given point. 

If that's the extent of what they're doing, it's a stupid program and they ought not bother.

My limited understanding of biology says the population boom in the sea lions will eventually crash the fish, and they will in turn crash.

We need to induce a population crash in the sea lions without it coming at the hands of the fish. Or their fins, as it were.

My proposal, seriously, is tie the "native american traditional fishing rights" to their tradition of taking seals and sea lions. Set a quota on the sea lions that they have to meet in order to retain certain quotas on the fish they take.

We're back to a sea lion themed food cart trend. Get the hipsters on the sea lion harvest bandwagon.
