I got down to WG on Friday afternoon and promptly hulied and got my but kick by the Slayer and the surf. The Kayak got thrown up in the air and hit me in the chest and I saw stars for a bit. I launched and started to have chest pain that radiate into my arms and into my jaw, classic heart attack signs but I know it is some to do with a blunt force to the ribs. I just spent the last 6 months try to figure out was wrong. This is something younger people in contact sports get not someone 63. Any way I did not feel like fishing. sat on the beach and watched a beautiful sun set and eagles all or the place.
OK I took a handful of aspirin and the rest of my old guys pills and shot and went to bed. Saturday was a beautiful sun rise and I actually beat Rudy to the beach and launched, I my completed preflight check list at about 300 hundred yards off shore, I had left my pole in the truck. Anyway Rudy gets off the beach before I get back. I got out about 4 miles I guess as I had ruined my Lowrance the day before so no GPS or fish finding for me. I see Rudy about a mile ahead of me and with the wind kick up I turned back to where I could see Michilutiiiq, his wife and daughter. They were in about 50 feet of water and I caught a chicken right off the bat and about 10 minutes later I got another bigger one. I was getting a lot of bites but I decided to troll for Kings. Before I knew it the wind and tide had pushed me North about miles further than I wanted and I could not make headway and was peddling my but off and was losing about two knots. I pointed to the shore and beached at 1400 and knew I was stuck until the tide slowed. I was a pretty day, I had lunch and snacks so I had a picnic and laid in the sun until 1700 hundred and promptly flipped the kayak. I thought I try again at 1800 and flipped the Slayer 3 times and made it out on the 4th try. I got out to where the tide was null or going South so I got back to WG in 80 minutes. I wanted to get home so my mother could have her Mother's Day dinner. I got home a 0045. Why the long story, I don't know but that was one of the funnest day I have had since I had bought the Slayer three years ago. I told wife that I was the toughest old farts I know.

Michilutiiq (hubby) and I were worried about you! We realized at some point you had left and we couldn't see where you went. Then wind picked up and we couldn't make it back to the truck. Overshot quite a bit and couldn't make headway with the strong current and wind. We ended up over a mile up the beach. The hubby ran to get the truck while our daughter and I had a nice picnic on the beach. He drove our truck to get us. We would have come and got you had we known you were down the beach. The hubby said we should have a designed radio channel for our AK kayak fishers to use on the water. We saw Rudy down the beach as well. Wind had pushed him past the trucks too. Despite the wind, we had a good day of fishing. Our daughter was kind of cold and cranky but perked up when she caught a chicken and I let her listen to music. We are already planning our next trip out!

Yeah,  Rudy and I were talking/worrying about you back at shore,  but not sure what to think. I didn't have the larger context,  though,  of your earlier issues. I know you told me bits of it,  but I didn't realize how serious it had been.  Not that I could have done much while dealing with my wife/daughter flotilla drifting on the current... I towed them as much as I could,  but we missed it.  Had I realized you just had chest pains and stuff... I would have at least asked if you were heading in or not.  I know you said you were,  but I figured you just decided to fish on.  Like Sarah said,  we could have driven down. Dang.

Thanks for the concern, I really was fine , I had my radio and phone. I was down to far to drive to, I thought I might climb out and hitch hike to get my truck, I saw a road up the bluff that would have got me close enough to use my beach wheels. The beach was hot and I got sunburn.  My wife was tracking me from Wasilla and freaking out as my battery was getting close to dying and I thought she was going to call SAR to get me, now that would have been embarrassing.

Holy cow Rod!  THAT is an adventure.  I feel a little guilty for not trying to contact you after talking to Jeff.  Glad you made it safely!
