Looking to do some bass and trout fishing at Henry Hagg Lake for my first time. Anyone that wants to join me is entirely welcome, I would love to meet someone with some experience fishing this lake! Also, I am new to bass fishing, and could really use some tips and tricks if anyone out there has em' for me!

If requested, I will post a report of my success!

Hey Sam,
Can't make it on a Tuesday (work M-F) but am more than willing to share anything I know. By no means am an expert but have caught my fair share of bass over the years. Is there a weekend that you are free?

For Bass at Hagg most people do top water lures in the early AM. After 9AM, switch to a Texas or Carolina rigged 4" Gary Yamamoto Senko worm--usually the Texas because it allows a slower drop down the water column. I've found the darker flake colors to work pretty well out there, excluding the green tones. Red's my go-to.

You just toss the Senkos out and let them drop down. If nothing hits them on the way down you then slowly jig them back. Takes some time to cover water, but Bass and Crappie hit them on the drop. Sometimes even trout. Perch will peck at them when they're lying still on the bottom.

Target wise, look for grass in the morning along the banks. Later in the day, chances are they'll move to the channels of the various creek arms. I'm not sure if we're post spawning already or what the water temp is. But once it gets to hot they like to hang deep along the rock faces along the south and south east. Map:

Last things to note are, unless they changed it, the retention is only 1 bass, assuming you want to eat one. They're rather muddy/swampy. Also, the pleasure boaters can make fishing the Southern 2/3 of the lake a real challenge once it warms up--particularly on weekends.

Alright, well my set date will still be Tuesday then! I appreciate everyone's help with the tips, I will let post a report of my success!

If anyone makes a plan to do a fishing trip in the Portland/Vancouver area more than a couple weeks ahead, I can try and make something work.
