Just got my first fishing kayak. Looking forward to learning the ropes. Long time angler, just new to the kayak thing. Love fishing for anything that swims.

What kind of boat did you get?

There are a few local lakes where you can get used to fishing from the new boat.  Unfortunately Sammamish (good for cutthroat) and Washington (cutthroat, yellow perch, ...) are closed.

I'm in my second season on a kayak.  Never spent any youth fishing fresh water since I grew up near the Chesapeake Bay.   So I've been working on the kayaking and how to fish fresh water in the local lakes.

For trout Beaver Lake has always been slow for me but Langlois is good.   I've never fished Pine Lake.

A lot of PBs fish Stevens for kokanee.  Some time this summer I'll get there with the downrigger.

Haven't identified any bass lakes in the immediate area yet.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, it's a bummer about Sammamish and Washington being closed right now.  I was actually looking forward to trying some bass fishing along the south shore of Sammamish, but that'll have to wait I guess.

I've been fishing this area since 2003.  I also have a 12' aluminum boat that I've used to fish Beaver, Pine, Langlois, Rattlesnake, and Sammamish.
Both Beaver and Pine are good bass lakes.  Beaver has large mouth and Pine has both large and small mouth bass.

The kayaks were my wife's idea for a family activity, but I made sure mine was a fishing kayak as I figured it could serve a couple purposes.

Funny story on how I ended up with mine.  I'd researched kayaks for a while weighing cost, size, reviews, etc.  I finally settled on the Emotion brand and set my sights on an Emotion Stealth fishing kayak.  Cabala's had it on sale for $80 off, so drove up to Tulalip to buy it.  They didn't have a paddle that I liked, so stopped by Sports Authority in Issaquah on the way home to see what paddles they had.  Didn't find a paddle, but saw a Lifetime Weber 132 on sale for 50% off that looked remarkably like the Emotion I just bought.  Did a quick comparison and found that they were the exact same kayak, but with different labels.  So, bought that and returned the other to Cabela's.  Saved myself $200.

Anyhow, the Lifetime Weber is more of a beginner kayak, but it's stable enough and long enough (11') that it handles and tracks well.  Looking forward to playing around this summer.  I'll still use my aluminum boat, but the kayak will offer some advantages and hopefully open up some other water to go try.  I hate taking my aluminum boat on Sammamish, but figure the kayak will do just fine.....if they'll just open the lake back up!  And, maybe try some salmon fishing on the lower rivers if we get our salmon season back this year too.

walldata, hit me up sometime and maybe we can get out on some local water.
