...and NW Kayak Anglers.  I'm retired, 68 years old, and moving somewhere along Puget Sound from Auburn, California.  Our daughter lives in Seattle and we'd like to live within an hour's drive to her, possibly a bit farther.  In California I was an avid Kokanee fisherman from a 14' Klamath outboard, but in Puget I'd like to do kayak rockfish/lingcod/salmon fishing, and maybe add crabbing and anything else.  I've been to Anacortes in 2000, when I took my elderly dad up to Campbell River B.C. for a week of salmon fishing with a guide.  Other than that, the only fish I've seen in Puget were at Pike's Place Market :)  I don't know the current state of the fisheries in Puget or where the good spots are for kayak ocean fishing.  I'm sure you've answered those questions many times so if you could just point me to the links I'll do my homework.  Part of our decision in where to live will be based on proximity to good kayak fishing opportunities.  I've read that there are some Kokanee lakes in WA and I'd fish those too.  Greetings to all of you and thanks in advance for your help!  FilthyFuzz. (I used to work in Alaska and would be out in the bush for 8-10 days straight.  When I arrived back in town (and before I showered) I was "FilthyFuzz".)

Welcome Fuzz!!

There's plenty of awesome fishing opportunities in Washington state for Kokanee. Lake Merwin and Yale come to mind immediately as two awesome kokanee fisheries in the state, I am sure others with more experience in Washington would know more, but these are two that bring folks in from all over for the Kokes.

Welcome! As far as Kokanee, I've been doing well on lake Stevens trolling 1-1.5 mph on the top of the water. Lingcod fishing seems better to me in the San Juans and near Deception Pass. Unfortunately rockfish are illegal to catch in the sound to my knowledge, and Salmon fishing is in serious jeopardy until the West of Falcon thing is figured out.  Baker lake and Lake Wenatchee Sockeye fishing is a great option this summer! WDFW does a good job listing the regs on their website, and updates on the salmon situation.
Good luck!

Thanks guys!  I'll keep a close eye on this site and start looking for a kayak....right after I find a house.

Welcome to the site and to Western Washington. Hard to say what the best location along the Puget Sound is for a kayak fisherman to reside as there are so many areas with diverse opportunities. Personally, I like being close to Hwy 16 for easy access to the Olympic Peninsula where salmon and bottom fishing spots are many. This is a great site to post and look for kayak fishing link ups-

That will be me in a few years! Post where you land and show us how it's done.
Also thanks for the comments on Koke and Sockeye. I need to learn new options if the salmon season doesn't resolve. Hopeful, though.
