I'm mostly a lurker and don't post often to this site but I want to share the great fishing we had on Wednesday May 11th at Cape Kiwanda. My buddy and I both limited out on lings and sea bass. We were using a 3 hook set-up with 4 oz lead head on the bottom (rootbeer color for me) and 2 staggered top hooks with small white worms or squid jigs. I had fish bite on all 3. Best fishing was NNW from the rock, not too far, when depths hit about 50 ft. Lings ranged from 22 to 30 inches (the 22 incher was the first i caught and I wish I had released it). Also had a couple nice sized cabezon we released.

We threw in 2 crab pots south of the rock for the first time. I had read a few years ago that that was the place to put your pots, but I should have refreshed my memory. We were only a few hundred feet south of the rock and the pots came up completely empty. What a bummer! Especially with the work and time involved hauling those things out there. A quick conversation with a dory boater confirmed my suspicions, the pots need to be at least 1/2 a mile south of the rock. Doh!

Surf was super flat, no issues coming back in. Swell was a bit choppy out there but not bad. Wind picked up around 11. Current was from N to S but not too strong.

Sorry no GoPro video, or even photos of our fish, just one lame shot before launching.
