On may 28 I went to Timothy lake by Mt hood to try for Kokanee,I haven't had much luck with kokanee from my kayak in past years.i launched from the last boat ramp b4 the dam, pine point I think it's called. I was prepared for the long haul with downrigger, lunch, and an arsenal of flashers/spinners and hoochies.

I was running 2 rods, one surface and another on the downrigger.on the surface rod I had a Shasta UV dodger with a clear/pink mini hoochie with a small smile blade. on the DR rod I put on a Simon wobbler dodger in watermelon with a hand tied spinner, chartreuse/green with silver blade. Both were tipped with home brewed shoepeg corn.

I barely got my DR rod set when my Flatline went off. After a botched net job I had my first koke in the boat.though only 8" it was a ice breaker.while rebaiting my downrigger went off.after getting it to the boat I was pleased to see it was around 12".the hook-ups just kept coming for the next 2 hrs, never going without a bite or hook-up for more than 5 min at anytime.i had lots of doubles and a surprising number of getting both to the cooler.

At one point I switched the Flatline to a traditional dodger with a chartreuse green with gold blade spinner and the flurry continued but with constantly larger fish.

I ended keeping 16 tho I could have kept 25. I easily caught and released/lost close to 35fish.

From the sounds of it the lake is turning a corner and the quality of fish is going up.all the fish were thick and fat.all had full bellies.i would like to see them in about 2 months. My largest was 12" with most being in the 10-11˝" range. Here are some pics.also a pic of my homemade downrigger and weight.

Nice haul and great report, Austin. I'm thinking a camping trip to Timothy is in order.
Quite the downrigger there..  how are you keeping track of depth?

Won't be that soon so we'll have to try later in the year.

Nice report! Will be camping there at towards the end of June. Hopefully the fishing will still be good.

Just looking at this again... Do you tie your own wedding rings? I just purchased a bunch of stuff for making them.

Edit: Looks like you already mentioned you make them youself... Good deal!

I do modify and change my wedding rings up. I found some beads and stuff to bling them out.

What Yaktastic is not mentioning is that he practices wicked voodoo salmon magic that causes him to catch fish where few others find success. Beware his stories!  ;D

All joking aside, Timothy Lake is near and dear to my heart and a resurgence of the kokanee fishery there would be/is welcome news. I wish ODFW put as much effort into kokanee opportunities as WDFW does.
