Hey fellas, looking to buy myself a new Jackson Cuda 12 and heard this is the place to go for advise. So I'm a fly fisherman from Nanaimo, B.C. and am looking to hang up the float tube in favor of a kayak. First of all I'd like to learn the tricks, maybe a few lessons before I head out. I eventually would like to do rivers, lakes and inshore fishing. I was looking at paddles and gear yesterday but still not certain which path to take. I know I'd like a carbon shafted paddle though. I am also running my own forum dedicated to rod building and fly fishing in the PNW. Cheers, Ed

Welcome in.  We have some folks who are quite talented with fly rods and kayaks, so you'll find some answers here.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Welcome coast rider.. It's always good to see another yak fisherman from the island.

Welcome!  There are a few Jacksons represented around here.  I use a Big Tuna on the lakes when one of the kids wants to go along, else I'm on the smaller Outback solo.

The Bending Branches Angler Ace is a great carbon shaft paddle.  I have a pair of 250's for the tandem.  Werner is the go-to brand around the forum it seems, but I lucked out and saved a lot of money when buying the BB's.

Get your safety gear and keep it simple for a while.  Just fishing from a kayak the first few times will prove you don't need to make it complicated.

What part of the coast you ridin? I have a big tuna as well. Love my Jackson first of all and love my Werner paddle and tried a bending branches first. I live in Garibaldi and fish the bay as often as possible or the ocean if the surfs not too bitchin, now that said I'll be out of the boat for a bit but still available for advisory of the bay conditions as well as fishing reports from the pb guys in the area. 5 salmon I know of today btw one nice on from "Mamaloos" probably spelt that shiza all wrong ::)

East coast of Vancouver Island, Nanaimo and area. From what I've been told the Bending Branch has a useful advantage of the hook remover cut I to the blade. Thanks for the welcomes guys

The hook notch can be handy.  I've used it to clear errant casts out of limbs and a bunch of times to clear trolled lines from the rudder when I slowed or drifted or ...
