May want to check for updates prior to heading down into the Gorge, according to the Oregonian, an oil train has derailed near Mosier in the Gorge

Thanks for the heads up - I can't imagine they will be reopening I-84 anytime too soon which will make things pretty difficult for those planning on fishing at Mayer State Park. Hopefully they get this thing cleaned up without any oil getting into the river.

A nice batch of a gooey, tar-like black substance will be available for collection from the river, take all you want! Bring your own bucket

I am not a fan of oil trains nor the fossil fuel industry in general. However most people don't realize the railroads, by law, have to transport any goods requested of them as long as they are legal and packaged in a DOT approved container for that particular product. This law stems from the old days when they were granted right of ways to help the country with growth. This is why UP and BNSF (et al...) lobby for tighter restrictions and better cars. It is also why their employees are treated well and they have great safety records. It is in their best interest to protect their property and for liability reasons.  Don't forget what our kayaks are made out of and how we get them to the beach.

I don't care how much a company denies it unless there a true non profit there all in it for the profit, don't believe me look at there executive bank accounts. Hell even some nonprofits for that matter.

Now they say they will release sewage into the river, which means don't touch the water downstream from Mosier.??

Of course they are in it for profit. All companies are. You said, "Like they care about anything but profit?" If that were the case, they wouldn't care about the safety of their crossings or their employees. I only meant to point out that they have an obligation to transport it and do so safely (more so than a pipeline).  Also, you and I float around in kayaks made from oil and get there in cars that burn it. Even my beloved wooden kayaks use petroleum based chemicals (epoxy) in their construction.

I feel bad if it affects those attending the tournament, and I wish I could be there myself, but I can't due to work.
