Low tide is at 10:15am and it's a minus tide, so the morning should be pretty low and calm.  Only challenge are the boulders  close to the wall that become exposed at low tide, so steer clear. I'm planning on launching around 6:30am.

Cosmo, when you are nailing blacks that easy, you may want to step up your meat stick to handle more weight. This way when you get a double or triple, just set the hooks real good and leave them down there a bit longer.   Where you are fishing, you could easily get a monster hitchhiker ling or two.  Just be ready with your net or gaff to collect your beast before it lets go.

You'll know when there is a big ling down there as the blacks will get pretty excited and try to flee. Just hold on for the extra weight to cling on.  They usually will hold on all the way to the top, just don't break the surface or they will let go.

Thanks for the tip Insayin.  That's what I do when fishing for the blacks.  I do carry a heavier rod for lings, but I've also landed a few monster lings and triple hooks ups of big blacks and lings.  The Shimano Trevala S is a 30-40lb rod, and although it has great action, it also has some good backbone for the big ones.  I tend to fish lighter gear, but tomorrow I will be targeting bigger lings out by the big buoy.

I'm also debating on whether to bring some whole squid or large herring as bait for lings, as most of the lings I catch usually puke up an octopus or smaller fish.

I hope to see you out there.

Sounds like you have thing covered.  Good luck on your meat hunt, I won't be attending.  I want to do some leisure sailing in the lake on my AI, and my daughter finally has a day off work and school to go spend with dad.  We'll see if she makes a good counter weight on the uphill ama during a beam or broad reach with a good gust.

Should be fun!   ;D

Nice video Cosmo!  Was your rod a Shimano Trevala or a Daiwa Saltiga?  Doubt it was a Shimano Saltiga  ???   Those Cabelas Go To Swimbaits seem to knock out the black rockfish...are you fishing a jig head on each dropper hook?  Fantastic success. Nice Job, man  :banjo:

Hey Barb,

Shimano Trevala S Jigging rod.

Sometimes I rig up with a 3-4 oz jig head on the bottom or a 3-4 oz bowling pin shape sinker on the bottom.  The rest of my jigs are unweighted, on long worm hooks.  I find that when unweighted, they have way more action than if they are attached to a weighted jig head.  And, if I get one fish on, the fighting of that fish makes the other jigs go crazy and the other blacks cannot look away.

Fun day out on the water. I got this in about 100 ft. It peeled line like crazy and is my new personal best. It is around 35-36 inches.

Nice Ling!

How was the water?  It looked pretty calm on the camera.

It was pretty flat. Early in the morning there were some big rollers that had me feeling seasick when tying lures. But it was a great day. Only a few light showers
