I discovered Saturday that while my Hanes Cool Dri shirt worked very well at keeping me cool as well as sunburn free my choice to wear shorts for the 100 degree day resulted in some pretty gnarly looking (and feeling) burns on my legs... I should've worn sunblock but in my eagerness to leave in the morning I left it at home and didn't realize it until I was about to launch. All that being said I really don't like sunblock and superstition has me believing that it affects the fishing (possibly some truth in that statement.) Regardless does anyone have any recommendations on some warm or hot weather pants that breath well but also protect me from the sun AND are conducive to pedaling around all day?

I've been looking at these, but they're a little pricey to "pop" on without a seal of approval from someone who has worn them...

Any quick-dry backpacking pants from Columbia, Mountain Hardware, REI, etc. will work. I don't have any experience with Huk gear but I would favor something made for backpacking because most boat fisherman just sit/stand around all day.

I just have a pair of nylon shell pants, I think they were intended for joggers but they keep the sun off...  Got them at one of the local shoe stores, as I recall.

REI is having some good deals on trail pants right now. I have a pair of Mountain Hardware that work really well for the hot weather. I think I got them on clearance for $25 a couple of years ago, they can convert into shorts too....check out the REI sale on their webpage.

Thanks guys!! All sounds like excellent things to look into. I may check out the Columbia outlet to see what they have and try some things on. Also might stop by REI as well and see if they've got any good deals.

light fabric fast drying convertible pants are my choice for warm weather/warm water outings.

+1 for Mountain Hardware pants.  I have four pairs.  The only thing is I have to remember to wear socks with my water shoes or my ankles get burned.  Or I just wear my NRS ATB Wetshoe.  The Mountain Hardware pants really do repel water and if you do get wet, it only takes a minute or so to dry.  Well worth the $$.  I keep my eye open on REI and buy them when I get my dividend and member coupon.  Makes them pretty cost effective then.

I really like my Railriders Adventure pants. Lightweight and reinforced at the knees and on the rear. Have survived three summers and Patagonia.

Amazon usually has a good selection, the outlet doesn't always have them. If you search for the warehouse deals you can sometimes get them for pretty cheap (like 20 bucks).

I love the white sierra zip offs. http://www.amazon.com/White-Sierra-Inseam-Convertible-Caviar/dp/B007LNJBF4?ie=UTF8&keywords=white%20sierra%2032%20inseam&qid=1465268516&ref_=sr_1_2&s=outdoor-recreation&sr=1-2 You can usually pick them up at REI on clearance in the Fall if Amazon doesn't have a deal. I have used them for years (the same pairs)and have had great luck. I just wade right in even in long pants mode,  on cool days to launch my kayak. They dry in a few minutes. However, if you pull your legs up too fast and scoop up water, you will soak your junk if you start pedaling the Hobie prior to letting it drain. It can be quite a surprise when the water temps are real low. DAMHIK. I wade into the saltwater bays with them too. Doesn't affect the zipper at all. I wore the same pair just about every day in Mexico during a 9 day fishing trip. They stood up to the elements just fine. In fact, they almost stood up by themselves with all the dried salt.

Fisherman's also sells another brand and usually towards fall you can pick them up for about 20 bucks.  They are also good, but not quite as high of quality.

Thank you for the all the great ideas guys! I will definitely be hitting up the columbia outlet and REI to see what they have and will also check Amazon for any good deals.

I've been there done this one before with my wife while on our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta and fishing most days. I seem to have "lost" those pants though soon after that trip... Lost or missing due to a certain someone not wanting them around anymore  :-*

i like to use the Columbia PFG blood and guts pants. they don't seem to retain stains, and dry super quick even if you go above knee deep.
