I'm thinking of making a suicide run down to Seward one night this week, wondering if anyone has put a line in the water there recently. I know the snaggers are starting to hit some reds at the head of the bay, thought I might try trolling for them a little bit, and maybe try to dredge up some cod and rockfish. I guess Whittier would be an option too if anyone has had any luck down that way. Never fished there before, it would definitely shave a little time off the drive.

The red snagging is the hot thing right now.  Sounds like a lot of fish.  You may consider trolling for kings.  The terminal kings come in at the covert where everyone is trying to snag them.  Water is a tad murky there sometimes so trolling may not be so effective.  Though the chances are lower than cook inlet, you may be able to troll up a king towards millers landing.  Chums might be showing up toward tonsina creek and I think fourth of july creek ( I Think thats right...the streams on the prison side.

Good luck, let us know how you do.  Another possible kayak trip right now is to fish sportsman landing to Jims landing for reds and trout.  You will need two vehicles, hitch hike back (but lock your kayak somehow), or arrange for a shuttle at Wildman's

Thanks Rudy, getting into a few chums would be a good time. I used to catch them off the beach with a fly rod in Juneau, they can really run you all over the place. I figured it was a bit early to find them in there now, but it only takes a couple to make for an interesting day. Probably a few rockfish to be had over on the 4th of July Creek side too. If I get a chance to make it down there this week, I'll report on my findings.

Wife and I were there last weekend.  We fished Saturday.  The water was pretty rough.  We caught some cod, a rockfish, a rock sole and something that looked like an eel/tadpole.  It was still fun!  It was flat calm when we left on Sunday
