Where exactly you launch the kayak?  how is the current? Did you drift vary far or you have an anchor?

I didnt know any better, so i launched at the marina beach by the dog park. The condition was ok (first time, so i dont know any other coniditions). Water was calm for the most part, only choppy when boats cruised by. Start after low-tide and I drifted slowly.

Hey Tevo,

Tell me next time you go out of Edmonds and I will hook up with you.  Just text me the same time you tell me when you have fresh Ahi Tuna is at the store.  We can also use my TI and sail around.  Glad you are a NWKA member. I scouted out Seahurst  Park in Burien and it has areas we can launch.  Not sure how good the fishing is around there, but may give it a try.  Anyone know how good or bad fishing is there.  I have gone down to Three Point, but it has no parking or decent launch or take out site - too many logs and big rocks. It will require two people to lift kayaks over rock, hill, and logs.

The current is not that bad, but I once went North from Edmonds to Shipwreck which is the south end of Marine Area 8.2  I returned back to Edmonds for lunch in the  cafe next to the fishing pier for food and a break and went back out.  I must have eaten too much and the light waves rocked me to sleep.  I woke up South next to Point Wells which is the boarder of Marine Area 10.  I pretty much fished, floated, slept, and drifted the entire Marine Area 9 along the East bank of Area 9.  The weather was nice and waves were small.

Waves and wind sometimes kick up unexpectedly and that's when I stay close to shore just outside were the waves break into shore, but it is shallow enough that I can stand up if I flip in the wind and waves. I will monitor my depth with my fish finder.

Be Safe !

Thanks

How did you get past the fence into the dog park with your kayak?

All of the Edmonds beaches are wildlife preservation areas. I have heard, but NOT confirmed, the city of Edmonds or WDFW will confiscate your catch and ticket you if they find you with fish on the beach. Not sure how they reconcile that policy with allowing fish to be brought ashore by boats in the marina.

There are several area that is accessible to kayaks  in  Edmonds .  The public marina is one location and that is where all the sports fishing power boaters come in with their catch.  Edmonds is also part of the annual salmon derbies in the Sound.

@woo & showa - lets totally get together one of these weekends. I am ok with sticking around close to shore!

When i was at Edmonds - it drops pretty quick from 50-60 to 100+ just about 20-30yards from shore.

Congrats with first out! There are some creepy flounders if you go up north close to shipwreck, maybe ratfish and sculpins. Never seen anything edible in this area, but salmon now it looks like closed forever :(
