Hey everyone, just moved to Corvallis from California. I moved up to persue my degree I mechanical engineering.. I moved from the Monterey area and was a member of NCKA. Hope to take my kayak in some freshwater for a change and maybe learn a bit about fishing rivers. If you guys have any advice or tips please let me know!

P.S. Does anyone know how to fish the willamete around the Corvallis area? It seams everyone I talk to acts like I'm crazy.. Thank you guys look forward to browsing your reports, pictures and hopefully posting a few of my own!

Welcome KyleClark!
As a fellow California expat as well I hope you enjoy it here as much as we do! While I am not in touch with the Willamette that far upriver I know a lot of folks see the Willamette as "gross" water for the most part and ODFW (our DFG) doesn't recommend eating many (if any) resident fish, there's certainly fish to catch and fun to be had though. Definitely check out the threads on the forum for ORC, it's our big salt tourney up here and it's coming up next month.

Glad you made it and feel free to oust back on NCKA I post my fishing reports as well, we have PC as well as Depoe Bay as long as the weather and swells cooperate. I'm in Garibaldi and retired if you want to give the Tillamook bay a try for crabbing, clamming, salmon, perch, seabass, or sea run cutthroat trout.  ;D

Depoe Bay isn't that far, a little over an hour drive. Bottomfish are open year round and the salmon fishing is good.  There are different rules than in California. Make sure you are up to speed.

ORC is July 9, for sure plan on that, you'll get to meet a bunch of the Oregon kayak anglers and a few of us from Jefferson and Washington. Montana has an entry too.

Welcome to Corvallis.  Sure, the Willamette has fish, definitely none you'd want to eat (which is why you'll get the crazy looks), but fun for catching.  There's also Foster Reservoir, Green Peter, Detroit, Odell Lake, Olalla in Toledo, Newport - Yaquina Bay, Depoe Bay, Tillamook, Pacific City, Oregon City, Portland, Astoria.  Tons of lakes in central oregon.  Seems like most destinations are a good hour drive for consumable sport fish...but get out and enjoy Oregon, that's what kayaks are for.  Look in the fishing regulations book for other places...then search on here.

Welcome to the forum, watch for open invites (or post one of your own) and join up with others. ORC is a must if you're already comfortable on the salt and know how to do it safely.
