Honestly I was into the read only a few seconds and quickly got annoyed by all the commercials and ad popups.
Closed it and moved on.

Seriously I am so tired of embedded commercials that completely distract me from why I am even on any particular page.  >:(

You should try again, its worth a read.  Just use the arrows at the sides of the pics to get to the charts that show the results if your ADHD gets to be too much.  [emoji3] [emoji6]

Everybody and their aunt's cat tests lines and no one uses the same test equipment, or test random samples from several production runs, or use the same lengths of line... and they all reach different conclusions.

If someone tells me "FishSlapper magazine and BassBooty magazine ran line tests and they agree!" I'd find those results a worthwhile read.

Sorry Tinker, I don't know everything about fishing line and how to test it correctly, so to me it was a worthwhile read, to you though I guess you don't need that info.  Good for you.

I gotta believe that one's ability to choose the correct knots and then tie them correctly has a greater effect than your ability to choose lines.  In either case, pick the ones you have confidence in!

Didn't say I don't need the information.  I need good, accurate information.  Is this right?  Is Sports Afield right?  Is Fishing Monthly right?  Is (fill in the blank) right?  I don't know.

No offense intended!  There are so many test results published by so many different sources using so many different testing methods that it starts to sound like babble.

Wait!  Allen's right!

I set aside my annoyance with the click-bait, traffic-generating format and read through to the results.  Really only worth looking at if you purposefully fish for IGFA 30# line class records, because it tells you which lines REALLY broke at 30# or less. I don't really care if my 30# braid breaks at 40#, because either one is too much to break off from a kayak, so I'm cutting line regardless.  From a kayak, failures of anything more than 8# or 10# (or whatever you can actually generate from your boat) are just weak knots.

It was a marginally interesting test, but don't feel like you're missing much if you don't read it.

Polepole nailed it.  The right knots for the right lines for the right conditions matter most.  With that being said, I fish two types of mono, one for fresh water and one for salt water, and one type of braid.  These are all in various line strengths of course, but it eliminates the guess work in wondering how a line is going to perform if you are familiar with it.  Bottom line, don't go cheap on the line, as cheap stuff doesn't tie good knots, and doesn't hold up.

Just my two cents.

Here are the charts from the article for those who are Inter Net Super Advertisement Nausea Experienced or I.N.S.A.N.E. They did a pretty good job of explaining how the line was tested in the link. Same equipment and methods used by the IGFA to determine line class records in case you were wondering.

I think abrasion resistance, stretch, and knot strength are MUCH more important than the raw tensile strength of your line.

The reels we use simply can not generate 30 lbs of drag.

If your 20-30 lb line is breaking while you're out kayak fishing, it's either due to poorly tied knots, abrasion, or line that's simply too old and brittle.

I found it interesting and good food for thought in consideration of which lines are worth trying that I have not tried before.  Thanks
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I can't believe they didn't have Maxima on there.  Years ago at the Portland Sportsmans show the p-line booth guy was running breaking tests.  He was demonstrating to a gentleman how his products break strength was better than the competitors.  He was testing 20lb lines.  I bet him $5 that the 17lb Maxima ultra green I had in my bag would break after his p-line, he took the bet.  I tied a fishin fool knot in the Maxima, not sure what knot he used on his p-line.  P-line broke at 18 something, UG broke at 19.2 lbs.  He said "lucky" so we did it again in front of a much larger crowd this time, same results.  He handed me $5 in disgust which went toward a disgusting PBR.

I took the advice years ago to run Berkley Big Game mono for just about anything. I have developed mucho confidence in my 10# , 12#, and 20#.  Haven't needed anything stronger as of yet for my main line (mono).

As for braid I have built some solid confidence with 10# and 20# PowerPro.

I believe that good drag control (set light) and good quality knots will win over snapping my line due to a fish taking a run/leap/turn.

Accidental abrasions, or bad terminal tackle are what they are and break offs happen. Such is life.
