Great morning in PC.  My son, Aidan (10), had a blast and caught a bunch of blacks. Great first trip for him.  Not quite at Rudy's son's level but the passion is there for sure.

Really great crew of nwka yakkers out there.

Awesome Aiden!

Ok after my wife pointed out the chairs on the background, does your wife know you filet your fish on the wooden kitchen counter with just the daily paper.

This may be actually be a smart move cleaning fish INSIDE the house.  Call it a blessing in disguise.

After she scolds him, he will have an open invitation to go purchase/build a dedicated fish cleaning station outside.

From here he can decide how awesome this new fish cleaning station needs to be for his filleting pleasure.

What, your not supposed to clean fish in the kitchen!  Mom cleaned dad's fish on the kitchen counter, plucked chickens too! Could explain why I don't have a wife. It's actually on a butcher block.

My brother says thanks to everyone, really had a good time, and appreciated the pointers to beach succeffuly.

Belated 1st of July fishing report.

Conditions were perfect except there was a super strong north to south current. We went south of the rock and dropped 2 pots and then it took forever to paddle back to the rock. I was able to catch 2 lings and 1 black rock. The first ling was barely over 22 inches, the second was 31! It was frustrating because the bite was good but the current made it so hard to fish. I came up with a technique where I would try to find bottom then put the pole in the holder and paddle while letting the swells jig, or better yet just rocking the boat back and forth. That's how I caught the big ling. I was all excited to try it again but I got snagged instead. I was using 30 lb monofilament for both line and leader. It was like fighting a bungee cord. I literally could not paddle both against the current and get enough pressure on the line to unsnag it. But I tried for about 15 minutes before I gave up and just let the current snap it off. I lost my new $5 Lancer jig along with everything else. That was it for fishing - I just paddled behind the rock and rested. Keith somehow caught 4 black rocks but ended up so far south after fighting them that he quit also. There was a guy there who anchored his kayak and was spearfishing with just a snorkel mask - no tank. He limited on black rock and also looked pretty cold. So we went and pulled our pots. The first had only 3 crabs in it - 2 keepers. The second was loaded! I had keepers spilling out of the pot onto my lap and had a couple close calls. We ended up with 9 or 10 and threw back just as many that were too soft. Trip back in was uneventful, I don't think I've spilled once this spring/summer. The surf has been super flat each time so that probably has something to do with it.

Next time: No more monofilament, only braided. I'm sold on the Lancer jigs (copper waterdog!). Need a new depth finder - I don't think the little portable one I have is powerful enough to consistently work through hull. Getting a better waterproof case for my iphone, instead of the bag I've been using, so hopefully I can actually use the touch screen for mapping and gps. Need more ling cod recipes ;-)
