If anyone else wants to join us, a buddy and I will be at Hagg Lake tomorrow (7/31). Probably launch at Boat Ramp C around 9, head out for some perch, then swing down for a go at some crappie/blue gill, trolling for lake trout in between spots and then to finish the day off. Send me a PM to coordinate or just meet us out there!

I was out there Thursday doing some sailing on my AI and noticed some good sized perch balls extending up from the bottom about 50 yards off the point two notches south of the Ramp C.

Take a look at the Google map link.  Right about in line with the boat is in the view.

Trolled hagg today, was a total crap shoot with the pleasure boaters out there in full force and no one enforcing the no wake zones until almost 3 this afternoon when the sheriff decided to do something....
Only had one ~12in 'bow to the boat before it shook off. Saw a family catching what looked to be bluegill in one of the coves near ramp A.

Thanks for the reports guys!

During summer I generally consider the southern 60% of Hagg a war zone and stay clear of it--"they" mostly come out after 10 AM... mostly. <shudder>

I'm with you.  I launch out of boat ramp C and head north typically along the shoreline with a container of worms and some small crappie jigs.

Hit the water around 10, tried trolling and jigging and even just bottom fishing, hooked and landed a giant zorilla.

Had a buddy with me who bought my Predator, so we went to one of the smaller bays and had fun watching him try to self rescue "just like the videos". It ain't so easy until you actually try it and figure it out and he needed to know that.

He was able to climb on the back behind the seat and shimmy forward. I made him complete 5 successful reentries from 5' deep water (so if he really got tired and stressed and needed to think a bit, he could juuuuust get his feet down, but it would be of no help whatever getting back on).

Called if a day at 3. Water temp was 77.5, nearly the same as the air.

Good for you making your buddy flounder in the water for awhile.
I had a friend who did that to me when I first got into kayak fishing and at the time I wasn't too happy with him but I fully understand now why he pushed me to learn it and I'm glad he did.  👍

Sorry we missed you out there--cell phone dead zone!

We started out intending to explore the horn mentioned above, but the pleasure craft horde changed our minds. Spent the rest of the day in the north end and in the Tanner Creek arm, trying out various trolling gear/rigs (read: fighting tangled gear and cursing). Also confirmed my suspicion that I can only catch my gear and self with treble hooks.

My buddy caught several perch and bluegill on a yellow/copper rooster tail, but nothing worth taking home. I marked a surprising number of small schools suspended 12-15' down in the open water, but they also liked areas only 8-12' deep up in the creek arm. Most all those turned out to be bluegill.

Wind was a bit of a nuisance, but it was a good day out in the sun!

We trolled straight  out from C, the headed across towards Sain Cr, then up towards the dam.

Funny you should mention the schools of small fish - I was marking a lot of that, too, 10-15'. I tried jigging through them, small koke spoons and crappie tube jigs. No action. I finally concluded it must be something wrong with the sonar or something. It didn't make sense there would be so many fish that shallow in water that warm.

Sounds like a pretty nice day on the water even though their wasn't much catchin' going on. I also was seeing a few large groups in that 10-15 range, but I figured it was something suspended it the water also.
