Cut the Hobie flush mount out and replace it with a conventional flush mount?

-Allen

I have seen this done on the Outback. However on the Adventure and Revolution after you pull the holder out, the area you're left with is pretty rounded and pretty impossible to install a flush mount. You can see that in the rod holder in the back below.

That's why I'm thinking of adding the wafers.  I operate a cnc mill at a sign shop and can cut these no problem. The only issue is that I don't have stock aluminum thicker than 1/4".  So, we'll see what the measurements allow.  If the parts are big enough, I'll just have the boys plug weld a 1/4" strip across a circle of ?" diameter.  That would be the fastest prototype.  Otherwise I can just mill it.

I'll keep ya'll informed as to how it goes.

I've looked at a gimbal mount and I think 1/4" will work just fine. If this works out is there any way us other Hobie boyz could get one as well?

I think you're supposed to wait for the proprietary Hobie version to come out. :D

Are you kidding?  It's gotta be worth a new battleship at least if he brings home "the next innovation" in Hobie upgrades.

So, Z, you've got a direct line to the Hobie guys, have you suggested this modification for upcoming models yet?

My buddy in Cali runs a cnc shop. He's gonna cut us some custom Kayak sized flashers out of stainless, and were gonna bend the ends over a trailer hitch ball and stick some of that psycodelic tape on one side and different solid colors on the other side. Things are pretty spendy in the store..
See ya on the water..

Tell ya what, Z.  After I make my set, install it and be sure it isn't troublesome (figuring out how much goop is enough and not having too much overspill in the way of the mount) I'll make a batch.  I know the the Adventure only needs 2.  You would need 2 in the Revo?  Any Outbackers interested?  If we can test the prototype then I would feel better about trying to get that new Battleship!!!  It would be amazing to put the WAF in a tandem Mirage boat, that's for sure! Here's to hoping....

I think that's what the contract said. I'll have to contact my agent and confirm it. ;D

One would actually would be plenty. I'd only use it for a DR and only mount it on one side.
