So after hitting Homer for Kings on Friday and Saturday (3 on Friday, Blanked in 2 hours of fishing on Saturday) we hit up Whiskey Gulch.  Low tide was at around noon, launched at around 11:30am.

We head out to 45 feet of water and didn't get a bite until about 2pm when we noticed the water was starting to turn around.  Then we hit maybe 6 or 7 tiny halibut.  The smallest was hand sized and the average was maybe 7 pounds.  Pretty small.

As the tide speeds up, we decide to try it closer.  In 30 ft of water I finally get a keeper fish.  53 inches which equals 73 pounds on the weight length chart.  Perseverance pays off....lol.  Ryu harpooned it for me and those who know this fishery, know that's over half of the battle is getting the good harpoon shot in.

A few pics:

Nice fish. I almost stopped at WG on the way home from Homer Sunday. Timing would have worked. I'm hoping I can find something there next weekend. Wouldn't mind another halibut or two in the freezer.

I just watched the video. Nice. That looked like a pretty masterful harpoon assist from Ryu.
