I am headed to Seward to fish the derby this weekend and was curious how mindful I should be of the tides. Can a guy kayak all day and not worry about fighting current? Looks about like 11ft of water moving between high and low.

The current doesn't rip in Resurrection like it does in Cook inlet because the volume of water moving is much, much less. The bigger concern is wind.

The tide does rip but it is not going to destroy you, go either early morning or later in the evening.  If you put in at millers landing you can troll between derby or any of the other coves down to the sea life center.  Other wise drive down Nash road and go all the way to fourth of July creek and put in where it goes to the ocean.  There is a lot less current on that side, and if you are staying at millers landing they can ferry you over there for 30-40 bucks otherwise its over a 6 mile paddle from millers. Happy hunting I will be trying my luck in the valley this weekend.

Thanks for the replies. I went down and fished for a few hours and it was painfully slow. Lots of boats. I didn't see any hookups. I did get to see some porpoises which was pretty cool. I think I will wait to fish there again until I get my kayak cart. Those beaches are rough on the bottom of the yak.
