Getting ready to fish out of Port Orford, the launch from the harbor / beach looks good. Anyone have local knowledge of the area?

Only fished there once, pretty easy and close.  Are you fishing the chetco bubble tomorrow?  I can't make it, have to work, but I went on Monday and it was slow but there were some hogs taken.

Crash, I am not going to the Chetco. I went by the Escape Hatch earlier this week, Jim the owner was out fishing, his party got one 30#s

Yes.  I live in Port Orford.  What do you want to know?

The hard part is getting down to the beach.  The easy way down washed away last Winter and it's a bit of work getting down these days.  There's a vehicle access road but the beach is all soft sand right now, and you'd want a serious four-wheeler to drive on it.

I'm around if you think you might need a hand.  Or a partner...   :happy7:

Tinker, I was going to launch in the bay area where they lower the boats by a couple cranes. It looked pretty good a couple days ago. A partner would be great, I'll post when I'm going, it may be rather sudden though. How much lead time do you need?

Tinker, you probably know the weather patterns there pretty well, does any day this weekend look good to you?

That's "Dock Beach" and it's usually an easy launch in the shelter of the dock.

This site is pretty accurate: https://www.windfinder.com/forecast/port_orford_heads?utm_source=www.windfinder.com&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect

I need about 90 minutes notice.  I've sent a PM.

Be aware of Jim...he can be a cheat.
My buddy ordered a new OK  (scrambler I think) a few years back, he got it and when we unwrapped it at home, it had the dreaded "BLEM" branded in the hull. We went back to Jim and said we did not order a blem and paid for a good boat, we wanted a new boat or some money back. He told us to pound sand.
I contacted OK about this sale practice, not long after that he was not selling OK any more and now sells Hobie's.
I have known Jim since the early '70's when he opened the original "escape hatch" in Crescent city, had friends who worked there after school while growing up, he treated all of them with no respect and tends to belittle employees in front of customers.
I live a block away from his store and refuse to spend a dime at his place to this day. (yes, I can hold a grudge)

That's not even close to th first time I've heard a story like that. If you need a hobie or accessories make the trip to waxers.

Thanks for the heads up guys with regards to Jim. So far he has been very nice, helpful, and honest with me. I will be sure to check things out closely in the future.

I had a bad experience with Jim back in August. I would not recommend his shop to anyone. That guy is a tool.

Yes he did, but I went out the day before RAZZ came up and had the Hobie in pieces trying to get to all of the sand that had washed in a week earlier.  RAZZ came back for seconds, and did better on the second trip.

RAZZ?

With the storms out of the South and West right now, and small craft advisories every other day (it seems) we've pretty much been locked-out down here for the past couple of weeks.
