I got in touch with the Coast Guard and will shortly be receiving 200 of the sticker that the auxiliary gives out to distribute to anyone that wants them. I have no intention of mailing these out but will likely carry some in the car, kayak gear, and H.O.W. supply box. Anyone wanting one just give me a shout here or pm. If anyone in Alaska is interested in picking up a batch to distribute let me know and I'll hook you up with the contact info for the representative up there.
Personally I think it's a great idea for two reasons if your boat gets away from you and later washes up on shore or the CG finds it adrift unoccupied then  the authority can simply call the # to confirm that you were or were not lost with it as well as make arraignments to get you your boat back. Ill post up photos when in hand.

They're waterproof and reflective.  If you can't meet up with Mojo, you can get them from a Coast Guard Auxiliary unit near you.

Everything will be all right in the end, so if it's not all right, then it's not yet the end.

Great reminder. I have a luggage type tag attached to the carry handle (side) on my kayak, but a nice waterproof one like this is great. I will definitely be picking one up!

I have minimal success keeping the info written on the slick sticker to stay put using a Sharpie.

Maybe just a couple swipes with steel wool to roughen the surface a bit for traction.   :-\

I had the same problem but just reapply sharpie as needed. I like the idea of roughing it up a bit.

Our local coast Guard auxiliary does a vessel safety check on our fleet and gives us a stack of these with the safety check stickers, not sure if AK has a similar program

You can also buy them from the ACA

A layer of clear packing tape or Gorilla tape (know you love the stuff) on top. I used to do that with surfboards back in the day and it held really well. Just cut the clear top coat tape to match the sticker underneath to keep it from peeling up.
