If you thought that fish stealing seals and sea lions were bad, check out this video - a fish stealing polar bear.

Wow...  Well, PBs are a lot more endangered than sea lions, so I'd personally let him take it with no hard feelings.  Sucks to lose his net too, though!

No ocean and no polar bears in Montana, although global warming might change both of those.  All we need to worry about are grizzly bears.

Definitely looks like a large sea lion. Polar bear has a much larger head.

Not.  Polar bears have a proportionally much smaller head than other bears.  I think that's a polar bear.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Definitely a fur bag Sea Lion.

Sea lion.

A couple Arctic facts from working on the Arctic Coast of Alaska for 17 years:
• There are no trees along the Arctic coast where PBs inhabit.
• There are no salmon runs in the Arctic Ocean except for a small pink run in the Sag River at Prudhoe Bay (a few hundred is all) which makes it the northernmost salmon run on N. Am. continent. And that was no Pink.
• There are no saltwater fishing guides working in the Arctic Ocean or Beaufort Sea.
• No sea lions in the Arctic Ocean, only seals. But there are walrus.
• The ear gives it away, as well as the flipper in the last couple seconds.  Well and I guess the location they were fishing is a giveaway too.  ;)

The video has been around the internet a number of times now.  It is a sea lion.

After looking more closely at the video, I agree that it shows a sea lion, not a polar bear.  I was surprised by the way it appeared from underwater and then disappeared below the surface again, but I got sucked in by the title of the YouTube video, and didn't notice that there was a glimpse of trees on the shore at the end of the video.  I'm going to turn this video in to Snopes, with some of your astute observations.

Update: I have submitted this video to Snopes.

That's why you keep your fingers out of the net.

Just imagine the chaos if you were sitting in a kayak landing that fish. You'd have to hose out your paddle suit when you got to the beach. My first instantaneous thought would have been "huge salmon shark attack" followed by the rollover (or dismount) from not releasing the net handle fast enough.  ;D
