Thanks for maintaining this forum - great resource!

Quick intro.  I moved from Portland to San Jose for 5 years for work and happy to be back in Portland.  Discovered ocean kayak fishing in Half Moon Bay/Santa Cruse and fell in love with it.  Upgraded a year ago from Ocean Mirage to a Hobie Revo 13 and am excited to get it some mileage this year.  I've taken it to Depoe Bay 3 times and done really well with lings/rocks and a nice cabby.  Also done Hagg Lake for trout a couple times...

Looking to expand my horizons this year and try some new things.  E.g. hook into some Salmon, Bass, maybe even a Sturgeon.  I'm also interested in figuring out how/where to fish on those those days when the open ocean is too rough, which seems to be most the time...  E.g. Seems like Tillamook Bay is a good option... I'd be happy for any advice on that front.

Thanks all.

PS - sour_squid comes from a "fond" memory of forgetting about some fresh squid I left in an air-tight container for a couple months... nearly passed out when I opened it... :-)

Welcome to the forums!! You should have plenty of opportunities for all three of those species listed soon! A bunch of us went out for sturgeon fishing yesterday and it was non stop action. Post up when planning on heading out and you may get some people joining in too... Let me know if you want some more sturgeon intel. They're willing biters right here in Portland.

Oh dear God, that is no joke!  Squid stank is in a league of its own.  Welcome back to the PNW!

Thanks Matt!  I've actually never gone after Sturgeon, from a kayak or otherwise, so am a complete novice, though, I've always thought it would be a good time.  I've been doing a bit of research but if you would be willing to share some insights, I'd appreciate it.  E.g. any recommendations about a decent place to launch in the general Portland area and general gear that could give me a reasonable chance of success from a kayak... Thanks!

Thanks Mojo Jojo!  I'm dying to get my kayak in the water and maybe hook into a ling... Would you be willing to advise me if there are any areas in the bay with a reasonable chance of hooking into a ling, or some rocks?  Also, is the Garibaldi Marina the right place to launch a kayak to enter the Bay?  Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

We launch behind the fish cleaning station in Garibaldi and the south wall holds some good lingcod and seabass just ask this guy. Since you haven't been out there in a kayak before I recommend tread searching it or pm me as tide and wind greatly effect safety out in the bay. I also never go alone.

A kayaker favorite launch site for sturgeon is the swan island boat ramp, typically most nice weather weekends it seems there's normally a few folks headed out there on kayaks.... Here's a thread with an open invite from this last weekend http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=18900.0   PM me if you have more questions or want more details, none of it is secret, just folks don't like spots and things blown up on a public forum.
