Do I need the Hobie through hull wiring kit to do this?  I intend to get the BerleyPro transducer mount.

When I was outfitting my Outback I was seriously considering the Dragonfly over the Garmin that I settled with. I called up the design specs on the dimensions of the DF transducer and it did not look like it would fit within the "Lowrance Ready" compartment with the cover plate in place.  Seemed to be too long and would hit the extended recessed area outside the cover plate.    I opted for the Garmin Striker 4dv which ended up with a perfect transducer fit with just a little mod on the attachment point.

The Dragonfly transducer fits in the Lowrance-ready pocket just fine, but does require some trimming of the cover plate. It doesn't bolt in, it fits just under the plate with barely any wiggle room. The aft end of the transducer does stick out past the end of the plate, and no it isn't a problem. You can google it, there are a couple of how-to's written up. Use lots of Marine Goop on the thru-hull fittings, they leak.

It depends. If the pre-installed exit points for the wiring Hobie has chosen are where you want them then no.  If you want the exit point to be located somewhere else then yes.

New boats come with a couple molded trees of inserts for the thru-hulls to cover different sizes and numbers of cables. You only need new fittings if you want to go into the hull in different locations, and if that is the case you can do a lot better than the Hobie fitting (especially the 3-way, that one is crap).

Do you have a suggested alternative fitting?  A link??

Almost any cable clam/gland that fits your cable size is better than the Hobie three way. I can dig up some links later. Crap really is an understatement, especially the way mine were installed at the factory.

I haven't seen this with my new kayak.  Is it possible this tree is underneath the Lowrance cover plate?  I haven't removed it yet.

He just meant the injection molded thru hull fittings for various wire sizes that have 1 or 2 wire holes in them and all are attached in a grid where you pull off the one you want. Should have been in your accessories baggie.
