When I bought the 2017 Outback, I was intent of getting the Lowrance Elite-7 Ti.  It turns out that I may be able to get a smokin deal on a Raymarine unit.  The obvious choice is the Dragonfly 7 Pro, but would moving up to the a78 be overkill?  I would like the touchscreen.  Not sure about how the chart speed compares on both units.  a78 is 5Hz, but I can't find a spec for the Dragonfly.  Mounting seems like it would be a tad more difficult with the a78.  BerleyPro already confirmed that their mount will work with the a78's CPT-100 transducer.  a78 = 2 year warranty vs. 1 year with Dragonfly.  a78 comes with sun cover and its not available for the pedestal mount Dragonfly.

Any other pros & cons other than price?  Would I have to cut off the NMEA 2000 cable as it would be useless on a kayak?

Without knowing any of the specs on the a78, I can tell you that wet hands and touch screens don't normally mix. Kayaks and wet hands go together like peas and carrots.

The a78 appears to have been discontinued by Raymarine, but that alone wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if I were in the market for a new finder.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
