Well as the discussions have previously covered, the Homer harbor is full of ice due to the extreme temps on the Spit. It is NOT LIKELY there will be any power boats launching this weekend to go scouting for kings unless they bring an ice breaker. Seriously. So any kayak anglers testing the local waters around the Spit will have all the fish to themselves.

But my diehard friend Shane can't let a little thing like a frozen harbor stop him from getting out and tracking down some kings before the tournament.  He chipped the boat loose from his slip yesterday March 8 (my birthday actually) and broke ice and plowed his way out of the harbor and slammed the kings. He had a family foursome along with his deckhand helping and they got the dad and kids a limit each. And some pretty nice fish. All fishing inside KBay towards the upper end. Out of reach of the kayaks but its an encouraging sign that there may be fish present around the Spit now too. I'll check and see what was in their bellies. Sandlance might mean hoochies are a better bet than troll herring.

Anyway, just wanted to give the group some incentive to look forward to! And for those not familiar with the Homer harbor, the outlet to the Bay is in the far background in the bottom photo.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
