I would like to add a pre-Vantage seat Revo 11 to my romp of kayaks, so I think that would be 2012 to 2014 model years.

So if anyone out there has one of these earlier Revo 11s and has held off upgrading but is now ready for a new Hobie with a Vantage seat and MD180 drive, and especially if you might want to keep your V2 drive as a back-up, shoot me a PM and let's talk.

cheers, roger

changed my mind and decided to build a rigid version of an i11s, selected this 'touring' SUP as the starting point, once I install the Mirage drive, seat, twist-and-stow rudder and steering, I'll post up how the project goes.  my feeling is that with a mirage drive, this thing is going to fly over the water...cheers, roger

Why not start with a Hobie Eclipse? Seems that would take the work out of installing the mirage drive and getting the balance figured out.

Just swap the crate for a cooler with a seat...?

Sounds like fun!
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Man roger you have much larger cojones than me cutting into a $1,100 sup to make it into a mirage kayak/sup... Definitely a cool project though! Looking forward to seeing it complete.

I would suspect it will take some significant strengthening to keep things square, not sure if a board is set up for that.  The stress from peddling might be a problem down the road but you'd certainly generate some speed if it works.

If you were good, you could peddle out fish, stick you fins and gear on a backpack and look like a real stud surfing back in:-)

Eclipse doesn't have a normal Mirage Drive hole and you can't 'pedal' the Eclipse drive, it is an up and down stepper motion, plus it is $2600 and not the hull design I was looking for.   ;D

Heck of an idea, Roger.  Looking forward to your progress reports!

Roger, I have a 2015 Revo 11, completely set up with a sail kit, that I would consider selling. Used less than 10 times! You are welcome to try it out!

correct, the force of pedaling tries to move/rotate the drive in 2 directions (or around 2 axis if you like), these forces need to be transferred to the structure of the board.

I think of the board as basically an egg, it has a hard structural shell and soft EPS core, so I need to locate the Mirage drive mounts (borrowed from my Oasis) correctly using a structure that transfers the forces to the top and bottom of the board.  The mounts need to be 3" up from the bottom and the board is ~6" thick, so they will be near the center line and connecting them to both the top and bottom should make for a solid mount.  easy peasy.

now, using a drill, jigsaw, and sawzall to cut out the hole for the drive, that is going to start with a real deep breath...cheers, roger

Did something happen to your oasis to warrants the scavenging of mirage drive mounts? Won't the oasis be unusable without the drive mount?

Barb-  thanks for teeing this one up for me...despite all my efforts, I just can't get Pepper to help pedal the Oasis, she just wants to stand guard and catch treats...so I decided it was safe to "borrow" the front drive mounts (they are $50 each)...

these are from our long (10 mile/6hour) outing on Tahkenitch this past Monday...not enough wind for white caps but enough to test out the sail and push us just a bit over 3mph for a while...also kayak testing her new K9 overcoat from RuffWear, intended to keep her warmer on those long October coho outings but surprisingly kept her cool in the sun...and it doesn't slow her down when we run the dunes...hey, I just high-jacked my own thread...twice.
