AK Fred Meyers Noodle Sale

I picked up this tip from Rudy while picking his brain about rigging up my kayak. He mentioned that to add some lightweight extra flotation inside the kayak for added safety just stuff a number of pool noodles in there. They weigh nothing, conform to any space, and are extremely buoyant. And as many folks know they make great material to add to accessories and gear on the boat to prevent sending it by accident to Davey Jones' Locker.

Fred Meyers has the 2 1/4" diameter pool noodles on sale this week for $1 each for 4 footers. I've bought a number of them off ebay for much more but even then the price was still cheaper than I could find locally but this dollar each is off the chart for a bargain up here. They also have the 3" diameter denser monster noodles (4') for $3.99.  They usually don't last long before being sold out for the season. Get'em while they're hot.  I substantially thinned out the display case at my FM this evening.  I have other uses for them in mind besides on the yak.

Foam pipe insulation tubes would provide the same "tuckability" and buoyancy for sit-on-tops and are available at most hardware stores for about what looks to be the FM sale price and make a readily accessible option. A few $ of either tucked in unused space provides some added security without loosing space.  If I have trolling rigs set up they also make a convenient way to set the hooks and wrap the line around the tube so they don't tangle.  Stretch them a bit and stick the hook back through the eye of the swivel.  A two foot length will hold a lot of different color/types of leaders or snelled salmon leaders.
