 ... you see some features going off for a bit.  I'm going to be doing some experiments on the site over the next week or so.  One thing though, the main forums will always be up, just some features might be disabled for short periods of time.

Well, I'm kind of a nerd that way.  I actually like doing some of this stuff.  The gfriend has to do real work a few days next week so I'll have some time to do "my stuff".   ;)

Did you miss it?  I did a couple of upgrades today.

The baseline SMF software (the forum software) has been upgraded to 1.1.6.

The Tiny Portal software (frontpage and left/right banner blocks, etc.) has been upgraded to v.1.0.6 beta 2.

There are a couple of things that look and feel different that I may or may not be addressing in the coming days, depending on whether I actually see it and then if it actually bothers me.  If you see something that has changed that bugs you, let me know and I'll see about fixing it.

Had a slight scare when I got a message that suggested a database corruption.  Oops!  Not to worry, a quick search at the SMF site led to the solution.  Man that got my heart beating a bit faster.

Hah!  Actually that's one of the things I'm working on removing.  I had it removed before the upgrade, but can't remember exactly what I hacked to do so.  IMO, that space takes up a lot of vertical space that forces one to scroll to see some of the more usable info further down.

If you're like me and don't like that space, for now you can hit the "+" or "-" button in the top left portion of that space to expand or collapse that block.

hey, i got one for ya, allen;

sometimes during slack time at work, i jump on my [ illegal by company rules] web enabled phone and pull up the site and read posts....like i tried to do today...

what came up on the tiny screen of my LG phone was 4 long vertical and broken columns of text that should have been horizontal and reading like a normal page..most likely a formatting issue that teh phones web browser didnt know how to deal with,  and for the 1st time ever, pics! sooo kewl , dude! thank you. [ lg 8700 and verizon wireless service, update software monthly.]

i know you are working on updating and upgrading a lot of things here. and we know it's a labor of love for many reasons. but, did you ever know we could get to our community from our phones?  not saying we can all get on and post via our phones, since some have way better handsets than others, but we can at least get here and read if there's no puter nearby.

Working on that.  The previous modification to allow that was not compatible with the upgrade, so I had to take it down for the timebeing.

I try not to make Ads too annoying, but they are a necessary evil towards keeping this site running.  So please don't ask to make modifications to them unless they are in bad taste or offensive, and hopefully I didn't let something like that get up in the first place.   ;)

OK.   Simple hack worked.  :)  There is now a link in the "User Info" box to "Show recent".
