First off I would like to thank Hugh for convincing me to go to PC and onefish for the intel that the coho were there and my wife for letting me go. If it weren't for you guys I would have been sitting at home.  So Hugh and I hit PC on Thursday o'dark thirty and this is my first time at PC *First #1*. We head out in ankle slapper waves, head south of the big rock and drop off a crab trap.  After that we start our troll for salmon.

Shortly after dropping down and pedaling I get a tug on my line. I get excited because I have never in 3 years of salmon fishing had a nibble.  I reel it up and get the net ready only to see that its a large black rock fish.  Then Hugh hooks into a native coho. He drops down again and hooks and lands a hatchery coho and punches it in the head.  So now its 2 for Hugh and ZERO for me, but he keeps reassuring me that Ill limit out.  A few minutes pass and I get another tug. This time its fighting hard and pulling line. I radio Hugh that I have a fish on.  He coaches me on how to keep the line tight. By the time I see my flasher the fish is jumping and I'm getting excited because its a real salmon **First #2*. I get it up to the kayak and net it *First #3* I have never netted a fish before and my adrenaline was pumping.  I look at the fish and its a native coho, so I remove the hooks and let it go :(. I rebait and send it down. 2 mins later another take down. Net it and its my first keeper salmon *First #4*. Im so happy at this point. My hands were all shaky and couldn't rebait the next herring, but I get it on and send it down. 12 mins later another take down. Another keeper. I limit out *First #5*.  We both limit out and start to bottom fish for lings and rocks.

My first drop and something really heavy is on my line. I tighten my drag a little, but cant get any traction on this fish so I crank the drag down more and more till it couldn't go any more. I still couldn't pull this fish up. I start to thumb the reel, lift the pole, drop and reel. The fish starts to come up very slowly. I get it within 10 feet and I see that there is a Black rock on my top fly. Im like okay how the hell is this guy pulling that hard, then I reel more and see another on the second fly, keep reeling and a third one on my Lancer jig.  This is my first triple rock fish hit *First #6*. I get them all on board and the wind starts blowing hard.

We both decide to go get the crab trap and head in. The crab trap was light. Only 2 keeper crab in it. We get in and get greeted by the fish checker. She wands our coho and finds that 2 of them had RFID tags in the heads.  We ask if she can take a picture of us before she cuts the heads off.

It was a epic day for me and to think I was just going to stay home.  Thanks again Hugh and onefish!

Way to go bro!    :headbang:

Get that salmon skunk off and get on with it.
Hugh is the man with the plan and can get you reeling in a salmon.....eventually.  ;D

It looked like a gravy launch at PC and reasonable landing, too.  What a way to make for an awesome day.
I would have loved to been there with ya, but I had solid plans already, and the INSAYN Fishing Team can hold it's own without me.  Maybe next time?

Congrats!  Nice write up, too.
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.

Thanks guys! It's been hard to wipe the smile off my face. Now to cook the fish up. I already made fish stock with the bones and head. Going to grill collars and bellies tonight and maybe sous vide a part of a filet.

You guys killed it out there!  Good call in joining Hugh.  That boy's a salmon magnet.

Congrats on your 6 firsts in a day.  I hope Hugh warned you once you get salmon fever there is not going back.
