Looks like I'm getting a free-pass for the day on Saturday from sunrise to 4 or so...

Had fun last week at Hagg Lake, with Insayin doing some trout fishing. Would be up for that again or after the mighty sturgeon

Been collecting parts for a detachable anchor system (Thanks Bsteves) see link here:

So, who wants to do some fishing?

PSR,

Sometime after I get back from this vacation of mine on the East Coast I'd be up for trying for some sturgeon.

That sounds interesting, but I'm a newbe to sturgeon. Think I'll at least need to re-rig my anchor to detach. Also know very little about how to rig herring or whatever for these bad boys. Please advise.

Willing & able to learn,
Paul

How was the fishing?

I had to work for them a bit more this time.  It was a wet one, ended up going on Sunday instead of Saturday.  I wore waders and a rain jacket, so my hands were really the only thing that got too wet and cold.  I stopped by Fred Meyer on Hwy 8 on the way, all their worms were dead.  Missed the little store at the end of the old hwy 47.   So no worms to try this time..

Other people seemed to be doing decent, no one was really limiting-out that i heard about though.  I tried a few things - from using a dead worm on the end of a needle fish, just the needle fish, various weights for different depths.  Finally had success fishing with a crick-hopper lure and no weight at all, just a snubber and some leader.

I got a small one down near the dam, the fin was clipped so it had to be 8", but there wasn't much meat on it so I threw it back. Ended up getting a nice fat 14ish" in the little cove North of ramp A. It hit really hard, I thought i was snagged at first, but then I realized it was a fish I set my drag really loose.  lol I played it like it was a big fish, wore it down, after 4.5 hours out in the wind and rain, I didn't want to kill the moment too quick.  Once landed it, I thought I'd add just a hair more leader on, decided to call it a day since my fingers were going numb. I could squeeze hard no problem, but it was very difficult to tie the knots.  Guess I'll have to look into some gloves, maybe those type you can flip the finger tips up and expose them or have them down and covered.

Glad to hear there is interest in sturgeon... Looking forward to it
