Hi - joined this forum a few months ago to check out the kayak fishing community here in the NW - looking at relocating to Portland, Corvallis, or somewhere in the NW (still trying to get a job!).  Currently a member of NEKF (New England Kayak Fishing) - was introduced to kayak fishing in 2013 and have been an avid Cape Cod / Boston Harbor / Buzzard's Bay fisherwoman the past few years, learning a lot. Mainly Striper fishing, but love to bottom fish for flounder, fluke, Tautog, Black Sea Bass and anything else I can catch here. I have a 2015 Hobie Outback, 2017 Hobie Revo and an Ascend (my first). I also do surfcasting and fish the Cape Cod Canal.  Would love to learn about fishing for Salmon, as I've only done the Salmon run in Pulaski, NY (on the fly, and not much luck!).

Hoping if I end up here, I'll get more involved.  Looks like there is a lot to catch here, though I will admit, the water temps are not so alluring as the warm waters of Cape Cod!

Attached a couple of photos of my favorite catches this year - 48" Striper in the kayak, 38" Striper in the Canal...

Those stripers look like a handful!  Nice catch.

Lori, Welcome. I think you have a bright future as a kayak fisherwoman here in the Northwest. We actually have a few stripers in southern Oregon, remnants of stocking the San Francisco Bay in the 1800's.

Thanks, hoping to learn a lot if I can get up here.  I'd like to catch a halibut, for sure!

As a former NEKF member, I can tell you fishing out here is a bit different.  The ocean is not as flat, tube and worm are useless, sluggos are only good for rockfish, and the worst part is you cannot liveline macs or poggies.
That said, fishing and fisherfolks out here are awesome.

Did you end up moving out here to the NW?  I just moved here a little over a year ago from your neck of the woods (Salem, NH) and love it.  Just bought my first kayak (Outback) and am looking forward to getting it wet!

Well, I'm happy to report I will be moving to Roseburg, OR, with an ETA around May!  Thought I would be in Portland, but the right opportunity came along a little further south.  Definitely taking the kayaks and the gear, and researching the lures and gear - this site is awesome for prepping (of course, keeping my Striper plugs, regardless!).
