Several other near shore black mouth spots according to John Martinis Saltwater Fishing Journal are the west side of Useless Bay, North Bluff, Elger Bay, Baby Island some of which are in 8-1 and 8-2.

I guess I haven’t considered Columbia Beach as part of “Possession”. I’ve passed it many times I n a PB but never stopped to fish as possession bar was always my target. I have heard of people fishing there but if you look at the volume of water east of Whidbey island, and see that it goes out through Deception Pass or by Columbia Beach, you have a good idea of the current flow. That said, it might be interesting during slack/slighter tides. Some research should offer some clues.
Just want to be clear my comments about possession bar are related to areas completely south of the island in the convergence zone of a lot of water coming down past Columbia Beach directly into a lot of water coming about 180 degrees from all of the lower Puget Sound. A moderate wind into a big tide can make for a not-so-fun paddle.
All good hunches and things for folks to consider in making a personal decision.

Yea I think we might have our areas crossed up here.  I don't consider Columbia beach Possession either.  I mentioned it as another area I was interested in separate from Possession.

The Possession bait box area I am referring to is on the SE tip of the island right near the beach off of the possession point state park.  Appears to be a short paddle from either there or waterfront park a bit north of there.

Good stuff, the baby island/elger bay areas were also on my potential hit-list at some point in the future.
