Anyone kayak shrimping the Hood this Saturday? Conditions last week were perfect for limits.

Shrimping in a big boat with a puller is fun, shrimping in a kayak is real work.  Excellent job.

Thanks - it can be a haul. Spot prawns taste better with a side of Motrin. Hope to see some yaks out there Saturday

Not too bad if you set it up with a downrigger,

I was thinking about using a down rigger...  thanks for the post.  Proves my line of thinking was Spot On.

Shrimping conditions excellent again yesterday and the spot prawns were cooperating. About 250' with the bright sun. I'll have to look into the downrigger puller - thanks for posting the video, Kardinal.

Yes - good eye, its a 2013 native mariner propel - sloped back is perfect for hauling shrimp or crab pots. I use a hobie revo for fishing but prefer the mariner for shellfishing.

As you can see by my signature I have an 11 Mariner the back deck is also perfect for easy self recovery if you put two ropes across the back at the metal clip brackets. Use to be TLW’s pickup truck but the older seat hurt her back so she’s got a newer Slayer now that I fish out of for her when she’s not on the water, the Mariner is mine now! >:D

The old mariner seat is definitely not its strong suit. I have a couple inflatable cushions that fit the seat perfectly and are real comfortable, so hours in the kayak are no problem on the back. Glad to hear there are other native mariner owners on the forum - its a great kayak, especially for hauling pots.

Just an FYI the newer Slayer seat fits inside the hull of the Mariner, if I can figure out a mod to bolt it into the Mariner I’ll order another seat.  >:D
