My fishing report for June.

Lake Cavanaugh

I got out a couple times on Lake Cavanaugh early in the month trying to find some cutthroat. June 3rd it was raining and water temp was between 53 and 54 degrees. No fish, and little seen on the fish finder.

June 10th the weather was going from rain to sun, and water temp was the same as the week before. There was some fish on the surface. I caught a 11” kokanee trolling the drop off off the northern shore accross from the boat ramp, and my downrigger popped near the island (could have been the bottom). I was down 20’, and trolling a pink/purple/chatruse/UV spoon. My friend caught a couple of 8” cutthroats along the northern shore.

Lake Samish

June 16th I hit Lake Samish. I was marking fish around 25’-35’. Fishing the same set up I had on Cavanaugh, and a wedding ring spinner I got no bites, but saw plenty of fish landed.

June 26th I did well by my standards. Caught three kokanee. Two 11”ers, and a 6”er that went back. Water temps was 70 degrees at the top. All three were caught around 30 feet on hootchies with spinner blades.

June 27th I caught a 8” kokanee I released before the wind blew me off the water.

Nice report, keep plugging away (some pun intended)  Ballardbrad did a nice video, not sure if you've seen it but offers some good tips.

Thanks.

I saw that video, the one from JoshPA14, and the report from Ravansfan, and thought I would go give Lake Cavanaugh a try. That sucked me into targeting kokanee out on Samish.

A word of warning on Lake Samish and Lake Whatcom for anyone interested in giving them a try. The county enacted an invasive species permit ordnance a few years ago on these lakes and are taking it pretty seriously. They have had people at the public access areas every day, and the Sheriff has been on the water checking as well. The good news is that it is cheap at $10 for any non motorized craft over 10’, and for the first permit you buy in any given year you can take a test to get $10 off the permit price (making it free for paddle craft). The permits and the test are available online or at any inspection station.
