It’s looking like Saturday could be good calm day. There are probably plenty of  people hitting it first thing, but what about 5:00pm? I have obligations Saturday during the early afternoon, then I’m going to beat cheeks to Depo and troll for salmon until just before dark. Anyone else?

I’m a “probably” for depoe Saturday, and considering it’s an all depth halibut day, I could be into a slightly later start. I’ll post up as I decide tomorrow.

I'll be fishing Saturday.  I'd prefer to launch early, but if it's a cluster at the ramp with the halibut people combined with heavy fog, I may wait a bit.  Afternoon launch sounds intriguing.

Got a report from a Sea-Doo guy who said the fishing was slow yesterday, but as we all know, every day can be different.

Yeah, now that I’m home from work I reckon I’m anxious to fish, so I’ll be there on the early side.

7 a.m. too late to catch you at the ramp, clayman? If so, I’ll be on the radio with news if I run into fish.

I'll probably be OTW before 0700.  But I'll have my radio set to 69.  I'll likely do the same thing we did on Monday: start heading NW until I find good-looking water.

Multiple reports of hot fishing today, both out of Depoe and out of Newport.  Some hot fishing in close too, 65 FOW off Fogarty.

Sure.  Honestly I prefer to have more lines in the water to cover ground and find what depth the fish are holding in.  That helped immensely last Monday, between Nomas and I.

Sounds good, and more lines searching is definitely better. I’ll try to get there a little earlier, and I’ll head the same direction. Let the fish prove that move wrong.

Long grind, today. Caught two natives and had a few other drivebys that didn’t stick, but got to watch clayman bag a nice chinook near the end of the day.

Budromero, good to meet you today. Hope you had a little more action than me, but at least it wasn’t a complete skunk. Down for Astoria in a couple weeks?

I wasn’t really planning on admitting to this because admitting to fishing from a pb is like kissing your cousin. The day was already really full for me on Saturday, and my boss invited me and some of the other guys from work out on a guide boat Sunday. Normally I hate wasting time fishing on boats because it’s not as fun do to the lack of control when it comes to where we fish, how long, no AOTY points for those fish. The list goes on. Also the fish you catch on someone else’s boat and gear are not really caught by you, right? The trip was actually pretty fun though. There was no prep work and it was a great time lounging with the guys from work while none stop heckling each other. And, even though it felt like I was cheating on my kayak I’m coming back to it with fresh confidence.
We sleighed the coho right outside the jaws and on up towards the lighthouse in Newport. The longest distance we ran was out to the jaws from the marina. Between the six of us we managed to boat 10 keepers. We lost lots of fish and released lots of natives. Hopefully next weekend the fishing will be that hot out of Depo from the kayak!

I think we're on the same page regarding our feelings towards PB fishing.  I do it on occasion, but I never consider it in the same league as kayak fishing, for all the reasons you listed.

But a hot bite is fun no matter what you're floating on!  Cool to hear you found fish.  Long-range forecast is looking good again for next weekend.  I anticipate most of the hatchery coho to be making treks north to the Columbia now, so chances are good that this may be the last weekend for a decent shot at clipped fish off the central coast.

Right now Thursday is looking like the day to go. I might have to sell my soul to the devil to get out of work on Thursday, but that may just have to happen if Saturday’s forecast doesn’t look better by tomorrow.
