ever want less to carry in your onboard electronics packages??  like maybe you just want to mark your put in and find it easy without a lot of additional buttons to push.  was browsing thru some email from REI looking for their GPS prices, and found a neat little gadget from Bushnell for less than $80.00 called backtrack..here's the link; http://www.rei.com/product/783567

I checked these out after my Silver Lake experience and decided against it.  This just seems better suited for my grandmother to find her house after getting the mail/newspapersince it is a really just a compass that calculates distance for you.  Maybe I'm blinded by its utter simplicity  :-\  Another problem I have with it is the fact that I could spend the same money on a Garmin eTrex H and be able to mark waypoints.

The "as the crow flies" part makes it dangerous.  Lots of things that go bump in the nite between here  and there !!

I dig my Garmin E-trex. easy to use and small enough to carry in the PFD
