Well, I’m the happiest person alive! This weekend was so much fun! I’m still in genuine disbelief that I pulled off this W with so many great anglers that I look up to out there. Coming in, I knew I had a decent bag but really didn’t think it would land me in the number one spot. It drove me crazy that no matter what I tried I just could not find a good black or a Greenling. It didn’t help that my fish finder battery died around 11:00.
In addition to the thanks that lingbanger mentioned, I want to give a big thanks to all of the old guys...I mean OG’s! Seriously though, all the people who came before my generation of kayak anglers that really got this thing going for us. You guys are the real badasses. I sure wouldn’t have learned this game without this group and some really old YouTube videos 😉 of other people doing it first.
Thanks to the sponsors for the great prize package! These items will go to great use! Thank you Brian, Craig, Dana, and everyone who has any part of helping out with this tournament and group of fishermen and women! Thank you NWKA!

Also, the salmon! Thank you salmon for distracting so many of the good fisherman during this tournament! 😁

Add Patrick to list of cooks to thank. He not only fried fish, but got the first batch battered up, too.

I agree that was a very fun and successful tournament! I want to give special thanks to Sinker for providing radio entertainment in his quest for salmon fishing intel.  :D

Thank you for posting the results!! It's crazy that it was only 4lbs separating 4th and 17th place, very close!!!

I ran through many ideas in my head of how I could've done better, perhaps not keeping my cabezon since I caught a bigger one later on, trying harder for a greenling... Ultimately neither would've had my bag big enough to best Casey's so It's all good.  ;D

I also tried for greenling and couldn't get one.  I actually think it was the hardest fish to catch this year (even including salmon)!

They distracted the bad fisherman like me, too.

That worked perfectly as well! As soon as you said chinook over the radio how many people reeled up and headed that way? A guy right next to me reeled up his jig and trolled away without saying a word as soon as he heard you say chinook.

I caught the largest greenling, but couldn't land a BRF or salmon.  :P

Rick from the Newports NewsTimes just sent me this article that they ran in the paper about the ORC. Pretty cool coverage!

Thanks for the PDFs...
Wow, I can see why some folks are skeptical of the news.  I kind of wish Rick or his editor had contacted one of us for some fact checking...

"taking some contestants on mile-long rides through swells up to eight feet"... Well not on Saturday.  Who told Rick that they saw eight foot swells out there?

"to be weighed to within 1/100th of an ounce"   it's actually 1/100th of a pound, minor technicality.

"Oregon-made Lancer jigs"... nope, they're from Washington

"pedaled his 13-foot Mirage to a fish-infested reef"... he's missing a few more words there

"Most ocean-fishing kayaks user pedal-powered propulsion"... well, maybe at the ORC, but I wouldn't say that's true nationwide

Anyway, minor fact-check complaints aside, that's a great write up in the local paper for our event.    Front page of the sports section.   The article managed to mention the money we raised and where it went, so that's a big plus.   Some of our sponsors got a plug.  Shane (Seth) West got a bunch of photo credits.
