Jimmy Carl Black trailer Done!

Got a request to help modify an old jet ski trailer for J.C.B. (Friend of little cowboy) After some emails and calls he dropped the trailer and his short little 15.5 ft kayak off at the shop here in Tillamook. This things rough, been modified before (the trailer) and only holds 1 yak.... that and nothing else 
 J.K.B. only has 15 ft front to rear in his storage space but we’ll try to make it fit without cutting 2 ft out of the yak and welding it back together. Looks like we need to adjust the angle if it’s dangle!
We’re shooting for 12 ft of usable deck space with a big truck bed box on the back. So without having the kayak hanging way off the back of the trailer and keeping the trailer under 15 ft to fit the storage unit we decided to go with a telescopic tongue. 3ft of receiver tube with 8 ft of steel inside that with the ability to slide quite a ways in. I got the steel picked up today and will be updating as we go.

After my crash interruption got cleared up yesterday I started on the build, after gearing for PC tomorrow it was tired and I was getting late so I didn’t get any photos, I’ll shoot some tomorrow after J.C.B. comes out tomorrow after fishing and we get some more done on it.

If ain’t wine thing it’s an utter...... disaster.... cjwienehe picked up the hardware at 99 West for me....... all wrong both items, I guess the parts guy don’t know how to measure, feel sorry for his wife!!! So looks like I’ll be running all the freakin way back on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning because I can’t paint it till I have the parts. 

Also do damn tired, pissed, and sore I didn’t get any pictures. To be photo shot tomorrow baring any more irritating issue for a tired guy.

FYI, Thursday is the 4th of July for everyone not living on the coast.  Stores out here might have shorter hours or even closed all day. Might call ahead.

Photo shoot, turns out you just need an axle, 2 tires, 2 saddles a bungee cord a pair of lights and one small rope..... piece of cake!

Ok couldn’t resist the “kayak trailer” after cutting the rusted axle bolts off I had about a half hour to kill waiting for J.C.B. to get through the tourist traffic. So I rigged him up redneck and wired his lights to my kayak FF battery.

Got his deck all welded up. I tacked his stake pockets on and got the lower half of the removable rack built with the mid risers on for the T bars. It’s slightly forward of center on the deck and rather long but he has a 15.5 ft yak that is limited to where it can sit on the gunwales on the cross bars, plus his monster truck box is going between them and needs to open. Got one of the springs cleaned up just to see the difference.
   He has a lot to get done before his vacation so I’ll be busting the rest of it out solo this week and weekend and hope to spray it Sunday or Monday. Don’t realize how much harder it is when your getting older and are half busted.

Well another day of fiddling with a kayak trailer modification, as I’m sure you’ll see we are modifying from the axle up 
If anyone has a line on axle ubolts, square 1-3/4 inner diameter and 3-4 inches let me know...... can’t find them on the coast anywhere!!! 

Used a couple small c-clamps to hold the axle on so I can move it around for ease of working on it. Might work on it a little tomorrow. If I do I’ll post up the progress.

Yes 3/8th bolt 1-3/4 inside diameter and 3 inches long I’m fixing to start calling around to see who’s open since my kid had to work today to get a Mini Cooper out the door. (Cornelius) wish me luck.

We got U-bolts, still got to install them but we got them. Got the spare tire hung today after making a big custom wing nut. Put the trailer light wire “armor” on the frame.  Cut and tacked the gussets on the rack and added the top center bar. Should be buttoning up the details tomorrow and with some luck painting it Sunday.

It’s turning out real nice!

Didn’t do the photo shoot today too damn tired and sore, my kid came in today to help out, couple of spots to smooth out then I think it’s getting color tomorrow and lights on Monday.
