I am planning on fishing this upcoming Monday and Tuesday off Pacific City if the wind stays low on the forecast. Salmon and bottomfish. I can say I'll launch early but it might end up being 7ish before I get around to it. Will post with reports Tuesday night.

I’m looking like I’m on for Monday unless I get blindsided by another emergency.

While I was out at PC today I heard the Dory Captains talking about the lack of bite going on in regards to Salmon.  Most of them were running in the 160 ft depth while trolling.  Hope that Helps.

Guess heliumhead is a tad busy right now so I’ll post it at his request.... his brother was out at PC with us (down from Canada Aye) and the we’re salmon trolling southwest of the rock about 1/2 mile and said his brother had a take down and was fighting a salmon... cool.... 15 minutes later he asks if someone has a net and could help them out.... ok I’m bottom fishing with my medium non salmon lingcod/cabizon net so trog 5050 reluctantly volunteers to head there way.... now we got a south drift of 1.5 knots with the current and wind! So now there more like a mile away because the fish wanted to go south as well. After some short questions and answers on the radio they determine he has landed a chinook with trog’s help. Once his brother got to the rock I seen WHY they were so far away.... he hooked a tow-fish!!! My report is simple 3 black rock fish and a 19 inch cabizon for an opener day on them ugly buggers.

Well, I got my swing shift working butt up early for today, Tuesday. After a slow trip yesterday, and two salmon missed hits. I figured I would do it right and get out there early today to get some revenge on them. Stopped at the Rock on the way out, probably about 5:45 and caught two blacks, then two came off, and then picked up one more. Almost had a limit of them! Stopped at a reef just inside the Pinnacle, tried for about 15 minutes for Lings, hooked something that I'm pretty sure was a decent-sized lingcod, but it got off. Oh well, I started salmon trolling by 730.

I brought a diver today to hone in on some more accurate depths, I started at 10 pulls, because that's where I had got my Coho yesterday. But no luck after about half-an-hour, so I headed straight west at 45 pulls (90' of line out) and hooked up at about a hundred fow. That thing did not want to come in easy, it kept making runs when I got up to the surface. When I saw its adipose fin I was bummed, but then I saw its mouth and I was happy again! Bonk for one chinook. Trolled around to 145 fow and missed another hit at 45 pulls, rebaited and started trolling back in and hooked up again at about 100 fow. This fish I swore got off at least two times, but I guess it was charging at me because when I reeled to my diver that thing was still on, it started jumping all around the boat. Definitely a Coho fight! Luckily this one was missing a fin, bonk for my second salmon of the day. Easy paddle back in and I was off the water by 10, before high tide and the people getting stuck fiasco that surely happened today after I left.

Ocean was super smooth, started getting windy and bumpy just as I was leaving. This was only the second and third salmon I have caught in a kayak, definitely a special kind of dance managing the net and moving them around after you have the thing on the Stringer.  Pulling a diver wasn't too terrible, I learned that the angle of the pole makes a big difference, will definitely be taking a diver again.  Oh yeah, watch those filet knives! They're sharp, got my finger pretty good taking care of the fish  ;)

Great fish T Coastal! Congrats on the Chinook! Trying to figure out what depth to troll at can be the toughest part of a morning of salmon trolling. Some days, even 10 pulls can be too deep if the coho are right on top. Nice work on finding where they were today.
