Ocean salmon catch rates all along the OR coast dropped way off since early/mid-July, here is the latest data for Depoe Bay and Winchester Bay, same trend:

with the ocean settling down very nicely towards the end next week, it sure would be nice to hear that this trend reverse.   ;D

only upside, no shortage of coho quota as of now (58K left to catch with 3 weeks left in the 'selective coho' season), hopefully some will roll over into the 'any coho' season that starts Aug31.

Down south we're in the middle of the summer upwelling - about 6 weeks late.  How does that affect the salmon?
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Until the salmon acclimate to hunting in the colder water, the bite slows way down.  Last week, I had to search for areas of warmer water to find a biter.  You can find all sorts of warm and cold water bubbles just offshore if you pay attention to the temperature readings on your fishfinder.
