Roy,

I'am set for go for tomorrow.  I have a babysitter locked in.  I just could not pass up the conditions even if we dont catch much.  The skipper should be their tomorrow also I think.  I also picked up some rootbeer grubs at Bi-mart today.

Well anyway, i figured I would give you guys a heads up.  I wonder what the skipper's fishing forecast is.

Thanx for the report skipper, Lets get out their and catch some ling.  I need to load my gear but, the Coors are tasting soooooo goood!  I probably will folow you around like a puppy dog like always tomorrow so be prepared.

Outside like we talked about sounds good.  I will call my chopper pilot buddy and give him a heads up so he can patrol the area.  I want to catch a big ling like you were telling me about.

Cool, we should have a good sized crew tomorrow.

Hope we can get outside.. I think that's what we need to do.

Oh yea, I went out today without Dramamine , the swell was pretty big and i didn't even get a tinge of seasickness. Maybe my body is getting used to it. I hope so cause Dramamine makes me crash out after i get off the water

I think we are all on the same page.  The outside is probably the tickit.  The south point is usually a good producer of blacks.  Thats good your not getting sick Roy.

We all know big female lings move inshore to spawn so lets bring a few home to momma.

thought I might try Sunset on Saturday morning, but chickened out after watching the line up break all the way across the gap. Went clamming at low tide, then fished & crabbed with Royg on the high tide where I caught what  I think is a Copper Rockfish, 1st one I've ever caught. Roy out fished me about 3 to 1 while piloting the boat next to the jetty. I was impressed. I think this guy is a serious AOTY contender once it really gets rolling. We got enough crab for 2 meals also (thanks for the boat ride, Roy! I had a great time!)

Yep, looks like a grass to me.  PNW, where'd you get that pic of a copper?  Looks to be a darker shade of copper, perhaps even a copper/quillback bybrid.  By the dark color, I would have almost said a quillback,  but the quills aren't long enough, hence my statement that it might be a hybrid.  Yo Brian (aka fish nerd), what say you?

Got the official pics from here: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/finfish/sp/fish_list.asp
the one with the tablecloth background is the one I took.

Quillback Rockfish (Sebastes maliger): Slate-brown mottled with yellow and orange. Deeply incised membranes on spinous dorsal fin. Strong head spines. Orange or brown mottling ventrally on head and anterior part of body. First dorsal fin with yellow streak. Deeply incised spinous dorsal fin.
Size: To 24 inches
Range/Habitat: Kodiak Island and Prince William Sound, Alaska, to Point Sur, California. Rocky bottom and reefs. Preference for rocky bottom within the 50 fm edge, relative abundance decreases with increasing depth below 40 fm.
Depth: 0 to 150 fm.

Yup, that last pic is what I'm used to seeing for quillbacks. Notice the large quills on the dorsal and the narrowed tail section.  That's why I didn't conclude the other pick was a quillback.   But here's the coloration I'm more used to seeing for coppers.
