I'm thinking of driving up to fish salmon out of Depoe Bay on Friday, launching about 6:30am.  Checking to see if anyone else is going to be out there to share intel with.  cheers, roger

I'll be there Roger. Depoe bite was pretty dead last weekend, but I'm hoping this north wind might change things up.

*Edit: jumping on a buddy's boat for a halibut/salmon combo trip tomorrow instead. Good luck out there Roger, looking forward to your report!

I'd be there, but I'll be smashing fish at our HOW event up on the Nehalem.

washing machine day for me out of Depoe early, I had it at 4' out of the NW and 2' out of the S, not a good mix.  called it after 2 hours of trolling out to 110', sounded like there were salmon out past about 230'.

seriously hoping other people had lots of success on the ocean today!

It calmed down a bit around noon.
Everyone one I talked with said the salmon were at 250 fow, or more.
Wasted 5 bucks on chicken that didn't turn into crab.
Kept 3 nice blacks, released 2 lings and a cabbie.

outstanding.   one of those days when launching early was a negative..crabbing has been slow in the Siuslaw and ocean here, a down year for sure on much of our coast.

I readily admit to pulling rockfish fillets out of the freezer to make fish tacos Saturday (at least they were caught on June 25, that was a good day).

On the way back into Depoe Bay, a whale was lounging about right outside the hole, I had to slow down, so basically, I got to yield to a whale today from an Outback.  never said that before.    ;D

If you're talking salmon I have no advice. If you're talking rockfish, try to move and try new spots if you're not getting bites. Closer to shore, farther from shore, near kelp beds, in kelp beds, away from kelp beds, on the bottom, mid-column. Try new baits: grubs, shrimp flies, swim baits, metal jigs, real bait (herring, anchovy, squid, octopus, sand shrimp, grocery store shrimp, etc.). Put a lure on that has a little action and slow troll it across structure or right beside kelp beds. Rockfish tend to be aggressive feeders and you should eventually find some willing biters, but some days are just slow for whatever reason.
