Hello, you adventurous people.
Fishing is a way of life and we all are hooked. With that being said,
I am in the market for a pedal drive kayak. I want to find $800-$1000 range kayaks in the used but good condition. I’m in Portland but willing to travel a moderately long distance for the right deal.  I have a kayak now that is not fitting my needs, so please help a brother out. Tight lines my friends  8)

Too bad you're not closer. I live in Shoreline WA and am looking to sell my Pescador Pilot. It's a little beat up but I am willing to let it go for $900 which includes the transducer, Garmin CV4 FF (with clearview), its mount and the 12v 10AH yakattack lithium battery.

Why's everybody afraid of paddle kayaks?  They work pretty well.   ;D

I agree. You have to have some mad skills to be able to paddle while trying to net a fish in a kayak. Especially when you're in a strong current that's aided by wind: upper body FTW! My legs have always been strong since my surfing days - I was never a strong paddler - probably because I used to skate a lot and never spent time in a gym lifting weights hehehe. Guess it just depends on your physique and skills.

Noob - proper paddling technique includes using your back muscles, so with all the upper body muscles being used when paddling are combined, that's actually the largest muscle complex in your body.  It may even contribute to the reason why no one makes a pedal-powered touring kayak.

In the conditions you mentioned, it doesn't matter if you're pedaling, paddling, or rowing a drift boat.  You lead the fish into better water to land it, and I've never found it to be too difficult to hold the rod while paddling away from an obstacle - and I definitely don't have mad skills.

Full Disclosure: I may change my mind about that if I ever hook a salmon in a strong current while in my kayak.  And now that I think about it, ending that at, "If I ever manage to hook a salmon." would have been more honest.  [SIGH]

There aren't many of us who owned a Hobie for a couple of years and then sold it to get a paddle-powered kayak.  I'm one of them.  My Trident simply works better for me in all of the different situations that guy I usually fish with gets me into than anything with pedals ever could: crossing very shallow water against a current, getting through dense kelp and weeds, and over underwater obstacles...  It just works best for how and where I fish.

Plus - and this is the best part - I can buy two (2) Tridents for the cost on one (1) pedal-powered kayak and take a Grandkid along with me (we can ask surfs12foot how much fun that can be).

Your mileage may vary.  Everyone else's mileage seems to vary - except that of the coolest kids.   8)

I was a long-distance runner back in the day and developed more defined leg muscles than I did for upper body muscles.  Had I taken up tennis or golf back then, I might be better suited for paddling.  Go you!

Paddle kayaks get a bad rep by people who've never caught a fish from a paddle kayak.  They're very effective and maneuverable in all kinds of conditions.
BTW: If you're paddling while landing a fish, you're doing it wrong. It's all about technique, even in the wind or in the current.

To each his or her own though.

Kind of a ways to drive but may be worth it.  Its a few hundred more than you want to spend but if you call and talk to them they may drop the price a little to unload it.  Its a former rental boat so they can play with the price a little.  Never know till you ask.

I am heading down to to Portland with an empty trailer tomorrow and offer to help Noob Noob to sell his kayak by take the kayak down for him, they both have to work out price and the condition of the kayak. After thinking a bit, I am not going to do that, because if the guy down in Portland did not want it for any reason. I cannot take it back to Noob Noob, I am pick up other stuffs from Portland, so there is no room for that. Sorry Noob Noob .

It's all good, showa  :D

He decided he wanted a different model anyway. I'll probably try to sell it in Spring 2020 when there's more demand.
