Big tides and big surf did a number on the beach at PC. Looks like the ramp is collapsed and has been closed by the county. I imagine one might still be able to walk a kayak down from the parking lot but not sure. The berm is pretty eroded.

Hopefully this issue will not blamed on to many vehicles and start charging an access fee to get on beach.

It looks like it's starting to eat away below those fancy condos, too.

That was an option being considered in the long term planning project anyway. I bet this will make it even more appealing.

So after seeing more pics it looks like the entire ramp did not collapse. But it looks like there's a significant amount of erosion next to the ramp, which is probably causing enough concern to have it shut down.

Couldn't tell from the pics;  did it impact the Pelican Brewpub area too?

It sounds like they have the funds necessary to make the repairs. However, if you fish there with any regularity it would be a nice thing to join The Doryman's Association. You can sign up online or at the little real estate office on the west side of the bridge.

As a non-Doryman what benefits does that get me? I'm not arguing, I just sincerely don't know.

It gets you a tax deduction, stickers for your truck and kayak, and updates from the Assoc regarding issues at the cape, rule changes, etc.

It will definitely support their continuous effort to maintain the dory tradition at the cape as well as access/ramp issues.  They give away a couple scholarships to local kids as well.  Good karma included!  Great community in PC, we’re lucky they put up with our shit every summer.

I am struggling to find the online sign up. How much is it? And where do you sign up?

I like The ramp but wish it was limited to launch vehicles. Overcrowding has been a major issue. However it is great for their local economy so their are benefits.

The doryman  have always been kind to me. A few odd stares but often are very talkative when you come back with fish.

There a link to their application on their site, it’s been $50 for some time.  I don’t think you have to give that much if you don’t want to, but for membership stickers, etc, that’s the threshold donation.

Yeah, what Onefish said.

I'd also like to add that PC is trying to figure out their long-term plan and a huge part of it pertains to beach parking, beach traffic, and parking for the surrounding area, since it's become such a problem. The interests of the Doryman's Association are our own interests so supporting the organization is a good idea if you enjoy fishing there. So sign-up, contribute, and if you can, go attend their annual meetings. I believe they are usually around Memorial Day weekend.

That beach erosion reminds me of the 1996/1997 winter storm that carved out a 15-30 vertical wall along Sand Lake shoreline.

The minimum donation is $5.  A few years ago, I bought a membership for $5 on the beach from someone signing people up.  I got a sticker from him, which I believe is helpful in limiting your chance of getting a ticket if launching from a trailer-less vehicle.  However, I do not think you will get one for the minimum donation.  $50 is worth it to me to keep that nice ramp going.  I pull way more than $50 worth of crab out of that place every time I drop a crab pot there. http://pcdorymen.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/JoinDorymenAssn.pdf
