Hey folks.  Longtime fly fisherman that’s been bitten hard by the sight fishing bug.  Looking at a kayak to see if it will open up options for carp, small mouth, searuns and whatever else I can see and cast to from a standing position.  Casting over rocks for non-existent fish is getting old!

Appreciate the opportunity to learn from everyone who participates in this forum.  Thanks

Welcome to NWKA.

I have a question for you to consider: why do you think you need to stand in a kayak to sight fish since you can glide right over fish without disturbing them?  You'll figure that out.

Glad you joined up - we can always use a few more kayak fly fishing folk.   ;D
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Sight fishing is fun. I definitely can see the appeal. If you are considering a hobie I would recommend the outback or pa for sight fishing.

Merry Christmas guys.  Thanks for the replies.  Sight fishing ups the excitement in a big way. It’s sort of like dry fly fishing to a particular spot where a fish is rising, except with carp/bonefish, etc. you don’t get the benefit of a drift.  Maybe a little drag, but that’s it.  And the take is all visual.  It’s good stuff.

I use a Pelican Catch 130 Hydryve for stand up sight fishing with a fly rod (and other types of fishing), and I really like it. I think there's a version without the drive that's even cheaper, if you're not interested in a pedal drive. I like the Catch 130 for fly fishing because it has a nice clear open bow for line. The drive is nice to have for hands free fishing and maneuvering, though you won't be able to operate it standing. I also like outriggers for added stability when standing - I got mine from sailboatstogo.com - kinda pricey though you could probably DYI for less.
