I'm going to visit the Big Island of Hawaii from March 11-19, and it would be fun to do a day of kayak fishing.  But I can't fit my kayak and kayak fishing gear in the overhead compartment in the airplane, so I need to find an outfitter who can provide me with a kayak and full set of fishing gear.  And I do't know where and how to fish, or what to fish for, so I need an outfitter who can provide me with that information and guidance.  I'd appreciate any information and recommendations you may have about kayak fishing outfitters and guides, and good areas to fish around the Big Island in March.

I've never hired a fishing guide before, but will need to hire one in this case.

Hey Pete, I think I've heard of guys using Plenty Pupule kayaks before. I don't have any first hand experience with them but it may be somewhere to start.

I have been out there several times lately for work and have seen individuals going out fishing on kayaks almost every time from Keauhou bay.  I will check around when I am there again in about a week and a half and report back.

From the research I did, plenty purple was one of the main ones.  I also found this one with a quick google search:

http://www.windwardwatersports.com/kayaking/tours/fishing-tours/

No idea if its any good....

I swear when I was looking it up for when I went to the big island last January that I found someone who was guiding out of Hobies but not seeing it now.  From what I researched, Plenty Purple is the the hobie dealer there and if they dont have guides they could point you in the right direction.

Also, from what I read, it isnt too hard to do something yourself if you are just looking to fish and not necessarily target big game (though it is crazy how close to the Big Island the big game fish come so maybe worth it).  I had read one of the easier things to do if you dont want to bring all your gear is to bring a reel and buy a cheap rod while you are there.

Or visit the local big box stores, and pick up a cheap pole spear to use, either from shore or kayak... Be a fun thing for you, I bet, with your pike spearing experience!
