I won't provide a full report here since yessno provided a good report of our day under the topic, Lakes Goodwin and/or Martha 01/17 & 18? http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=2174.15

Instead, I'll post some of photos I took, and use this opportunity to thank Zee, Yarjammer, and yessno for making the trip up to my neck of the woods. I was impressed that, in spite of the dismal report I posted the previous evening, all three of you still showed up.

It was great to meet you guys, and I look forward to the next time....except, because yessno made us look bad by catching 2 very nice trout while the three of us shared the big goose egg, he shouldn't be invited. ... JUST KIDDING!

Great pictures! Looks like it was a beautiful day to be out on the lake. Congrats to Yessnoo for his first AOTY catch. Nice fish!

Those are indead great photos.

I hope you have a waterproof housing for that Nikon D80?  Things might get a bit sketchy being the "official photographer of NWKA" when we're out on the ocean or river.

Well, it sounds like the weather was a lot nicer in the PS country, than PDX.

Congrats to YN on the trout. I'm not too surprised that you caught trout on perch lures. They're a nuisance when I'm trying for perch.

So true, we've had crazy winds (30+ mph gusts) here in Portland since late Friday.  The upside is that it's been sunny and clear out.

Careful, you're movin my center of gravity to a spot above my shoulders :walk: that ensures a huli next time out....

Sooo... are you psychic? Or did Z, YJ, PS, or YN tell you what brand/model camera I'm totin?

You bring up a great point that I've been contemplating since I first placed my butt in a yak late last summer; my camera is toast if this thing tips over...

On Saturday this point became a top priority when things got seriously "sketchy" as I came oh so close to a huli. Although the surface water temp was 37 point something, and yet again I had forgotten my wading belt, the first thought after my huli avoidance manuever was "Damn I should be a belly dancer!" Actually, it was "CR@P, I thought I was dead!" And then, upon seeing how much water my yak had scooped up, (enough to soak everything in the bottom of my milk crate), it was "Damn! My camera!" Fortunately, my double ziplock bag protection system was up to the task...this time.

I've been researching ways to better protect my camera while yakking. The housings that are waterproof to 200' seem like overkill. And the sandwich bags I rubber-banded around my Olympus OM1 25 years ago, while at sea in the Coast Guard, are inadequate protection for full submersion. Anyone ever used a Dicapac WP-S10? It appears to be a good compromise between waterproof at 200' and sandwich bags. http://www.dicapac.com/new_eng/02_products/sub06.html

I've toyed around with an EWA Marine waterproof "bag" for a Canon DSLR.  Unweildy at best.  Although that dicapac looks a bit better.

If you do look at those seriously, check out that the ring adapter on the front doesn't obscure the view.  With a mid-zoom I had problems with the EWA Marine.

Something like that... I can also tell you things about the f stop, focal length, iso, etc..  for each shot.

For example.. this photo..

I already said you used a D80, but here's some more information about it.  It has a 145 mm focal length, 1/250 sec exposure, F/8,  using a 100 ISO.  Oh, and the photo was taken just before noon and you shrank the file size down to 640 wide using Adobe Photoshop 7.

Good luck finding a good waterproof solution for your camera.  These images are so much better than most point and shoots the rest of us carry.

While reading your reply, I slapped myself in the forehead and muttered "DOH! it's the metadata, meathead, he's simply looking at the metadata!"

Thanks for your input Allen. Hopefully, someone locally carries the Dicapac WP-S10. It'd be nice to get touchy feely with one before having to part with one or more Benjamins.
